YAUR (Yet Another Uintas Report)
#1
I had planned on hitting Starvation this week. I even contacted TubeDude to get a couple o' tips. Unfortunately, by the time I had gotten home from work and started getting my gear organized, it seemed wise to take my kids fishing the next day. It also felt like it would keep them alive longer and preserve my marriage. [Wink][Wink]

We hit a couple of easy access lakes along the mirror lake highway and then decided to go fish the skinny water of the upper Provo. Had a few firsts there. My oldest caught his first fish on a fly (thanks TD for the spinning flies writeup). I'm not sure of the pattern we were using but the top fly was similar to an elk hair caddis and the bottom fly was a wooly bugger of some sort. It didn't seem to matter. The other first was my younger son's first catch with two broken arms (his arms not the fish!). He had a little incident doing tricks on his scooter a couple of weeks ago and has casts on both forearms down to his hands. Didn't keep him from catching the most and biggest brookies of the trip! I'm still not sure how he was able to do everything with just his fingers exposed on each hand but I suppose determination and competitiveness with his older brother helped.

It was a great trip. It gave my wife a break at home and apparently I now have a guaranteed b-day trip to Starvation later this month. The temperatures were really nice up there and the scenery was beautiful. Can't beat it. [Smile]

[#0000FF]You're a good dad...and a better husband. Sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do to preserve domestic tranquility. (Good name for a rock band)

Glad the fly-spinning tactics worked for ya. But with some of those silly little brookies it don't always matter much what you serve or how you serve it. I grew up catching those willing wascals in my old stomping grounds of Idaho. I'll always have a special place in my angler's heart for them. Sure not many fish any purtier. Purty good when allowed to swim in hot bacon drippin's too.

I failed to mention that we were using some of your bait buggers both with and without sweetener. You are correct. Those brook trout ain't proud. We kept one at the behest of my sons. They ate it and then blamed me for not telling them to keep a limit. Oh well. We will know better next time. I should be hitting Starvation around the 18th weather permitting and then back to the Uintas for a week. This time I will have my tube so I can finally venture out on some of these lakes that I have only ever shore fished. Should be fun and this time I will snap a few pics of trout wearing your lip piercing finery.

[#0000FF]Lemme know when you are planning a Starvy trip. I might just join you for some immoral support.

Very good. I am trying to figure out where to go up there in two weeks. I got a week vacation to use then.

I haven't figured that out either. I'm willing to hike a bit to get to better fishing. Am I willing to strap on my tube with the ol' backpack straps? Maybe. I would like to find some of the bigger brookies that are up there but if I have to hike uphill for 3 miles...no thanks.
