suggestions for easy top water lures?

as i mentioned in an earlier post.. i just started lure fishing.. my dad never used them, so i never learned how to use them when i was younger.. but i got some plastic worms set up in a texas rig and a five of diamond spoons that ive been catching a lot of bass with (on the worms) and pike (on the spoon)..

where i fish, the lake is partially drained so theres a lot of seaweed near the surface.. the worm works beautifully as the texas rig prevents snags.. with the spoon, if i keep a steady pace reeling it in, and cast it in the right spots i can avoid the weeds

so im looking for suggestions for some good top water lures that i should look into trying out.. which lures would you suggest and why, and what sort of fish am i likely to catch on such a lure?

If you just got into lures, wacky rigging our fatties is pretty easy and produce some good bass, but of course they aren't top water lures.

Topwater bite is best at first hour in the am and last of the pm. Plastic frog worked in weed beds work all day long as well as dragging a worm or lizard over the top. Open water I like a small popper or run a buzzbait. Now your bass fishing.

i actually prefer pike and walleye over bass, i like the fight they offer.. what would be a good top water lure for walleye? and what would be good for pike or am i better off with the spoons for pike?

also suitable are snagless lures.. the texas rigged plastic worm worked very nicely.. wonder if i can get a snagless treble hook on my spoon, or perhaps switch to a single weedless hook?.. lots of sea weed and once i get a little bit of it the spoon doesnt spin and move as it should anymore which defeats the purpose

ive been reading a walleye fishing guide.. as it seems spoons and jointed hard baits are best for pike, walleye seem to prefer larger jigs paired up with plastic grubs.. not sure which color grubs i should use, but ill go to my outdoor store later on and pick up the components to compile some walleye jigs, as well as check out some of the shallow diving crankbaits.. not topwater, but i believe i can make these weedless with the right hooks so they should still work

can anyone recommend a good jig or crankbait setup for walleye? as thats now my targeted fish

Jason, pick up a pack or two of Storm WildEye Swim Shad. It's a pre-rigged swim bait that you simply reel in slowly - and walleye cream them.

Get the four-inch size in a color that matches the forage fish where you are, be it shad, perch or whatever.

If you need weedless, also get some swim bait bodies and some swim bait hooks (some lightly weighted or and some with no weight). You can rig them with the hook point just barely nicked under the skin. Again, cast out over the weeds and reel slowly. Hang on.

well, one thing that should help with weeds is replacing treble hooks with single hooks.. there are size limits on certain fish here and i had a treble hook put two if not all three points into the corner of a pikes mouth.. had to cut the tissue away to get my lure back.. luckily this was over the size limit and i was keeping it anyway.. but i do a lot of catch and release so im going to use single hooks anyway..

but, ive been checking out some crankbaits and how they work, the body of the lure acts like a blocker for the hooks which is interesting.. so im looking to get a 4-5 inch minnow type crankbait probably in a perch pattern and then trim or file the bill down for a shallower diving depth suitable for this lake

I have yet to see a walleye hit the top of the water, I have seen them down as little as a foot or three. I like soft plastic minnows or silver repallas
