Lower Provo 7/16
#1
Fished the lower Provo the other day and did really well. Started off nymphing and had success on the usuals...BH PTs, HE, and CJs. Around 2pm the PMDs and Caddis hatch came on strong and I started nailing them on top. Had to leave around 3:30...but had my fill by then. Water was up a little, but the fish didn't seem to mind. Fun time!

P.S. I also hooked into two muskrats...never even hooked one before, and I hooked two! Man...they are everywhere there now!

Both muskrats gave me a run for my money...both times I tried to get to my phone for a pic, but both times they broke me off...which I'm glad for...I had no idea how I was going to get them off! Lol.

I was using a size 16 PMD & Caddis.

I didn't...I never tried one seeing as I was getting all the action I could handle with the hatches. I'm sure I could have got some with a hopper/dropper set up along the banks...which is perhaps my favorite way to fish. Looks like I'll be back up on the lower next week...time to tie!

I have caught a muskrat before. I was fishing a late evening caddis hatch on the lower Provo and hooked into what I thought was a monster brown until it went up the bank though the willows. This past weekend a friend and his sister each caught a bird while fishing the Green Drake hatch on the middle Provo. I caught a duck once fishing at Strawberry.

Was up there yesterday. I saw some hoppers flying around. A week or so ago I threw one out there but got no takers. They are still hitting the PMDs though on top a bit. I caught three yesterday afternoon
