Nice weather and ample moonlight make it a great time to fish dries at night. Put on a big white foam chernobyl I tie with some glow-in-the-dark flashabou and tie a size 14 x-caddis a foot behind that. There were plenty of caddis flying around but only a few fish rising.
Saw a rise in a pool below me and made one cast to it and landed this nice 16" brown. Turned out to be the only fish caught. Slow considering the number of caddis out.
Put on a mouse fly and had a huge slurp but no fish right against the bank. Its amazing how loud that sound can be at night when its so quiet. It actually spooked me a bit.
Of course that's nothing compared to a beaver slapping its tail on the water right next to you when it realizes you are not a tree sticking out of the water. The first time that happened to me at night, the first thought that comes into my head was a mountain lion just jumped into the river after me. Its happened a half-dozen times to me now and everytime I about have a heart attack. Death by beaver.
