What Flies for Uinta Lakes?
#1
Buying my step son a fly fishing combo, and would like to get him some flies to go with it.

Suggest 4ish flies for brooks
and 4ish flies for finicky cutthroats

Thanks

I like ants, bees, beetles, hoppers, BH PT, BH CJ (Copper, red and black), wooly buggers (white, olive, black and red with some crystal flash), renegades, parachute and irresistble adams, Rainbow Warriors and Elk Hair Caddis (Natural and Olive).

Don't overlook the Tiger Trout, they put up a pretty good fight. PM me if you need anyother info. Good Luck!

Last weekend up there I had the best luck with mosquitoes and grasshoppers.

I even found a dead dragonfly and put it on a hook... Fish snatched it up right after the cast.

I was up there last weekend and at almost every lake I hit they were willing to bite, almost any wulff patterns or humpys will work. I like orange and yellows this time of year.

Thanks a ton, I had an some ideas, but that really helps. I fish a lot of hardware and plastics, occasionally a fly and a bubble. But what ever works, and is fun, and I think the stepson will love fly fishing, as it is very active, challenging, and sometimes it is more about the fishing than the catching.

Headed to Sportsmans tonight.

If you like cranks I'd buy the Yo-Zuri and the Dynamic Lures. My favorite cranks are the Dynamics HD Trout their just a little 2 1/4 inch crank in an assortment of colors, my favorites are the Bubblegum and Glimmer Trout. For the Yo-Zuri I like the Hot Pink Pins Minnow Magnet in 2 3/4 inch. Those cranks work magic up there.

Dont forget about small frog poppers. This year I tried frog poppers and caught some nice 12-13" out of a few secret ponds up there but they go crazy when they see frogs.

One day I saw a small frog swimming fast in the pond and a nice brooking slammed up in the air, killed the poor little frog, and that's when I started using popper up there [laugh].

Thanks for the insight. One day we will trade nice brook and cut stories. You seem to know the place, How many lakes have you been to in the Uintas?

Ya there's tons of brook trout lakes up in the uinta for sure XD. I've been to around 30 lakes so far but still growing. Didn't catch a single cutthroat in the uinta this year. Only caught brookies, bows, tigers, and grayling.
