I was trying to be a good boy today and get some chores done and I worked hard at it, but everything kept not working out so I could get the jobs done... So, I decided to go fishing... Hit the water at 1:15 PM today in the toon and it started slow, but picked up... Ended up with more fish missed than caught including my bucket list fish... It was 19 caught today and I'm sure I missed at least 1.5 times that many others... I couldn't keep them hooked up today...

But it was a nice mix of SMB, LMB and crappie today...
[inline crappie1913.JPG]
And my phone decided to stop sending pictures for some reason, so I guess I don't get to show anymore pictures today... But back to my bucket list fish... I had a goal to catch a 3 lb SMB this year and I had him today, I fought that guy for 10 minutes and thought it was worn down, had my net ready and he was up on the surface coming right into the net, then he looked me in the eye, ![Wink Wink](https://bigfishtackle.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.png) ed and spit the jig in my face and was gone... He was easy twice the size of the biggest I've caught and today, I had 5 over 1.13 lbs with the biggest 1.65 lbs... It was a tank with gorgeous markings and he knew I wanted a picture of him so he mocked me and left me wanting... Fun day, but I do have a fishing problem.... Later J

Here are a couple other pictures doing things the long way and it didn't reduce the size as much...
[inline LMB1913.JPG]
And here is one more smallie, just for the fix...
[inline SMB2913.JPG]
And I guess I better get to bed if I'm going to make it to the flotilla in the morning... Later J

Nice job on the deer. I have a water pump to install so I'll have to call it a day by noonish today. Sorry about that, but you probably won't feel like fishing after deer anyway. We'll catch ya next time. Congrats. J

Dude, you've got a serious problem!
I suggest you take two worms, and a bobber and call me in the morning!
You're just rocking the river aren't you? Giving me grief last year, and look at you now - finding the hot-pockets!
So sorry I missed the venture this morning, looking forward to a report??? Hope the canyon treated ya'll well. I had some Crappie filets, and a few other goodies all ready to roll. Ugh. I gotta get out there before they drain it!
Wonder if I could hop a flight over the marsh and take some aerial photos. Would be interesting to learn the ways of the channels.

It was a nice morning on the water today, great food, great views and great company but the fish showed us little love with only some mud cats and a single channel for our efforts but it was still a great time. Thanks for the ride Rod and the great eats Jeff and Rod. Sorry you could not make it down there with us John.

I couldn't find them all spring and now they finally showed up, so we must fish opposite spots... Keep trying, and look around the edges instead of the depths... Later J

Hey John, Sorry you couldn't be there with us today, but you picked a great day not to make it... Just couldn't find a decent fish to get to bite... Rod, nailed our only good fish, but I just couldn't get us on the fish and my motor decided to not run this morning so we didn't get to bottom bounce like I wanted to... But we drift fished it and should have caught fish, they were on the graph, but not eating for some reason... Was fun company and lots of deer and wildlife with cool trains moving through, and no rain so other than fish it was a great trip... Fish taco's were good on the island, I like those smallies they are sure mellow fish...
Anyway, rumor I hear is Cutler will be taking a 1' drop this week for some work on the dam and then they are going to raise it again for a short time and then the big drain will hit mid-October... Too bad for the fall fishing, but it should keep the crowds down... Lot of folks finding this little puddle lately... I think your spot must be doing perty good lately, lots of people visiting it from day to day... I had a bunch of hits there when I floated the river, if you get a minute that would be a quick try for ya... Make sure you have repellant the bugs are terrible this year...
I would like to get a view of the channels while it's down as well... Too bad it's such sinky mud, I'd like to explore it a bit... Well got to run... Later J

Yup it was a good day and I still got the water pump changed on my father-in-laws truck too. Took parts of two days and I didn't get the grain sold yet, but now I have something to do today I guess. Thanks for the comment. J

Had a great time with you fellers Saturday. Great idea for the lunch on the island Jeff thanks so much for putting that together. Need to do that again, even if the fish weren't willing to play.

Thanks Rod, I enjoyed it too. Way to catch the fish so it didn't go down as a complete skunk. I think next time I better pick a better spot for the fishing end of it. Hey got my motor purring fine now. Little snog in the main jet wouldn't let any fuel into the engine. I'll work on that steering cable next. Did you make the river trip? I'm hearing catches all up and down it lately. Sure hope the drain won't kill it. Later J

Oh but you didn't try those fish tacos. They almost made up for the mudcat take of the day. I'll do better. Have to get back in the toon to do it. Later J

I'm thinnin' - next time we let Rod lead the way. He seems to have the nose for the bass!
Would love to learn the river better. Carp sure were flip-flopping around enough - having a good 'ol time!
