Belted the Bear
#1
Finally got my sorry tail down to the river's edge, and pitched a few. Been planning to swing by a few spots, but too many things in the way.

Bumped into one of my river-buds. Of course he showed me how to catch the biggest bass- right up against the shore's edge!

Found a mix of Smallies, Largies, and some Crappie to boot. Seemed like around dusk - the Crappie either showed up, or turned on. Some of those bass aerial acrobatics are pretty insane! Love those smallies with big attitude!

I gotta get me out to the river a bit more!

Nice job on the crappie and bass. I wish that river was close by my place but that's one long trip to head up for a day [unimpressed]. Keep up the the great bear posts.

Well, your Jordan has a few finny friends!

Surprises me to know how long and diverse the Bear really is. I do enjoy the stretches I've gotten to know, but many more that need more exploration!

Been practicing the "deep fry" with my indoor-turkey fryer, and the Fish-n-Chips was flaky, crisp and delicious!

Ya I haven't caught a largies out of the since last year but lucky at my last JR trip I found the white bass boils for once XD. The Jordan river have been pretty picky lately. Only a few big kitties, suckers, and dinky mudders.

You should of invited me for dinner ha ha ha.

Nice job Yote, I thought that looked like your rig. Hey I hate to pass on bad news but they are starting to drop the water level. Still have a few weeks before the big drop but its coming Oct 7th. Better get out a few times before then. I'm hoping the boat will still float next weekend. This first drop is supposed to be about a foot. So that will make some spots a little tough to get through. Great job and I'm glad you made it out. Later J

Fantastic report, the catch pics combined with eating pics, well done sir, well done!

You northern folks are making me wish there were some Crappie closer to my house.

Yeah really! He has some serious work to do!

My bet is this year he hasn't busted out the fly rod at all. I was thinking he was gonna make due on that promise of a TM on the fly.[Wink]

Nice fish... and dinner!

All the Bear reservoirs are going down.

Looking at the levels on the Bear...flows are dropping rapidly. Water coming in above Soda is around 250 where it was 500 to 600. Water coming out of Oneida has dropped to 370 from 700 -- 900. Looks like the faucet is being turned off quickly.

Ha - ain't heard no fat lady sing yet! I'd say even one of your monster carp would put my little 6wt to shame! There was lots of surface activity right as dusk came on, but not sure what they were hitting. Wasn't MY offer! Probably just dinkers dining.

Now - I did toss a frog pattern for a while, well, it was actually less like a fly, and more like a frog. In fact - it was a frog, but that kicking action was killer! Just wish the big bass had noticed!

Was sitting in an area full of bass Friday and watched a small garter snake come swimming across and I was sure I'd get to see a spectacular take, but snake wasn't on the menu. Later J

What is your average size crappie out of there? The one in your pic looked healthy. Thanks for the report!

This fall the crappie are pretty nice the ave is about 11" there's just not many of them. I have been fishing for bass when I've picked them up so maybe I'm getting bigger fish because I'm using bigger lures. Later J

[#502800]Do you ever fish the area around the Benson Marina for smallmouth and crappie, or do you just fish the Cutler area below the Cache bridge?[/#502800]
