I thought I would post some information about a site that I find very useful for trip planning. The Weather Underground http://www.wunderground.com/
I know that you all probably have other weather sites that you use, but the Weather Underground has one feature that I haven't found anywhere else.....its interactive map.
If you go to Weather Underground, mouse over the maps tab and then choose Wundermap http://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/
The Wundermap is an amazing interactive tool. Go to the right side of the map where the layers are and scroll through them. It probably came up with the satellite cloud cover or radar on. That is one feature, but there are many more that I like even better.
You can activate the layer with weather stations. It allows you to see the temperatures and wind speed and directions for all the weather stations at a glance. And there are more of the usual weather related features. I won't go into all of them except for snowfall. When you click on snowfall it shows where it has snowed in the last 24 hours, but if you click on the little sun next to it you can set it to show snowfall for up to a week past. That is nice for some of those high places you might want to go to. I just wish it had snotel sites too.
You can turn the road web cams on and see what the highways are currently like.
But the best feature is the Rivers. It shows all the river gauges on the same map.
So all together you can get the weather, the cloud cover, the wind, temperatures, road conditions, snow, and the river flows all on one easy map.
I know that you can get all of these things on other sites, but I really like having them on one interactive map together.
Hope this is helpful for someone else too.
