Bob Gilbert and wife, Kathy, from Pennsylvaniawere vacationing in Fort Lauderdale, celebrating their wedding anniversary, and their gift to each other was a deepsea fishing charter aboard the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishingteam. While still at the dock, theytoasted each other’s happiness with Mimosas, and afterwards we headed out onour fifteen minute journey to the drop off in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoyin Fort Lauderdale, FL less than 2 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, youwould be in 500 ft. of water due to the extreme drop off we have in Fort Lauderdale FL.

We have 36 artificial wrecks for fishing in Fort Lauderdale FLranging from the depth of 64 ft out to 430 ft. varying from 30 ft. Chris-Craftmolds to 500 ft. freighters. We headedout towards one of the artificial wrecks that sits in 220 ft. of water. We had two plainers down, both with doublehook Bonito strips and sea witches in front, and two Bonito strips and twoBallyhoos for surface baits. Our firstfish was from on one of our plainer rods. Kathy was the angler and she reeled in a Bonito. As I circled the wreck, one of the plainerrods went down again and this time Bob caught another Bonito. I headed towards another wreck, and ranacross a floating plank, hoping there would be a Wahoo underneath it. But I was wrong because underneath the plankwere Mahi Mahi’s. Each time we made apass, we hooked up with a Mahi Mahi – some of the Mahi Mahi’s pulled the hooksand some we brought to the boat and into the fish box – we wound up with atotal of 5 Mahi Mahi’s – plenty of fresh fish for the dinner table tonight.
