Great fish, great video! Thanks for sharing.
I have to ask: did your friend ever wish he had a real rod and reel?
I've fished Fish Lake for years, and often wondered how a small ice-rod would handle a 20 - 30lb lake trout. Because of that, I've never considered using one. I always us a more traditional size rod/reel combination. In this video, it looks like the rod/reel handled this particular fish just fine. Anyone have any thoughts?

My son was using one of the $13 jobs from sportsmans yesterday and landed a pike at yuba. His rod was bent over just like the one in the video.

Thanks every 1 for the feedback it was an awesome catch but pbh I don't think it matters to much as long as your reel has a good drag just got to keep the line tight so they don't pop off and get them tired it would definitely be a fun fight I think I might carry a ice rod with me in the boat and bass fish with it haha that would be fun!

We got three in four hours and they were all around the same length. We only measured one, it was 27.

The trick is to go away from the crowds or the swarm. I hit it on Monday and it wasn't bad then. Saturday sounded like a zoo though.
