Strawberry
#1
Sorry this is a day late. Went to Strawberry on Monday (holiday). After all the slush reports from Saturday, I took a pair of snow shoes. Didn't need them. They rode in the sled the whole day. You could see were wheelers/snow machines had been bogged and it looked terrible, but the top layer had frozen up. It was like walking on a sidewalk - opaque with a little skiff on top. Went out of the Strawberry marina, north a few hundred yards. In 10 minutes I had 2 nice rainbows. It slowed from there. Kept 3 rainbows for the girls at work. Turned back 2 more rainbows and 2 cutts. Beautiful day, no wind, reasonably warm - though the ice holes kept freezing up. What a great state - open water down in the valleys but the ice won't be off Strawberry any time soon. Take your pick soft or hard water.

Do you think the conditions had improved enough to get an ATV on the ice, or is it still walking only. Thinking about going out tomorrow afternoon.

I saw snowmobiles on the ice but I did not see any ATV's. My impression is you could use an ATV, but if you broke through the crust into the slush you would be stuck. I hate to make that call. The cold I feel outside right now might help things. Good luck. Sorry I am not much help.

That is helpful. I think we may play it safe and just walk. It sounds like near the marina is doing okay for fishing anyway. I can't remember, did you say what time of day you fished? Thanks for the info.

I arrived about 0715. It was light but the sun had not come up. If I were to do it again I would get there about a half hour earlier. Fishing was best early.

I was up there on Saturday and went about 10 feet before the 4 wheeler was stuck. Unless it has changed since that time its a definite no. Fishing was fairly good, but not the greatest. Still caught a few nice ones
