I was up on the ice yesterday (Feb. 20th) and didn't have any issues getting on. There is a span of about 10-12 feet of thin ice (I could hear it creek when I walked on it) between the shore and the main ice slab, which is about a foot thick. You just have to be careful where you try and access the main ice.
For those of you thinking about heading up there this weekend, here's a tip. A fellow talked to me up there and indicated there would be a slew of boy scouts taking over the camp ground and doing some activities on the ice. So, it might be a bit crowded there.
