I was trying my hand at some early spring fishing last friday and happened on this big catfish. I didn't measure it, but my boot is about 13" long. You can make your guess, but it was a big fish. I wish I could say I caught it, but this big boy just washed up on shore.

Wow is that as big as it looks? That's a monster. Would you answer if it was north of the catfish challenge line or south? Man that would have put up a big fight. Later J

I don't know where the catfish challenge line is, but this was probably north of the line.

Line goes through Salt Lake. Big fish that's for sure. Could you tell what killed it? Winter kill low water or something like that? Swallowed a horse and it got stuck half way down. Thanks for the info. J

I didn't perform any forensics on it..it was getting a bit smelly. My guess it was a winter kill or just died from old age. I didn't see any other dead ones on shore. He probably just got old and gave up!

Don't blame ya for not getting your CSI kit out. Funny as big and fat as it was that it died. Maybe had a heart attack. Thanks for the info. J

Catfish have been there for years, but seldom targeted, and apparently seldom caught.
Gobs of Powerbait...Haha!
