Just wanted to say Hi . A job transfer is bringing me to the wild west! - looking forward to exploring the waters of Utah - glad to see there are musky and pike swimming in some of the reservoirs. My two favorite species. I enjoy fishing out of my boat most weekends, and im looking to pick up the art of fly fishing once i get settled in - something i have never done.

Our cabin in Minoqua was over ran with Chicagoans (FIB's haha), now UT??? Ugh, can't run from them. Just kidding obviously, I'm a UT transplant as well, from WI originally, love it out West once you get past the idiotic liquor laws and a few other gems which, if you don't' let bother you, you'll see what a fantastic place this really is.
Welcome to UT!

Ah - a kindred spirit. Go Cubs@
I emigrated from the south side of Chi-town a few moons ago, stopped off in S. Cal for a few years before landing here, been passing through for the past quarter century. Got my feet stuck in the Utah mud.
Used to fish the Illinois river, out on the breakwaters of Lake Michigan, and the best was summers in Michigan (well, the BEST was Florida...)
One of my claims to fame was winning the Mayor Daily regatta in the 420 class. Some folks like to bite the big Apple, I'll take a day wandering Wacker drive anytime. Or a bike ride up Lake Shore drive.
Welcome. Set this goal - Wiper on a Fly (Willard Bay). Bring a 9wt and heavy tippet! Or TigerMusky. We don't have any true Musky, except what USED to be in the breeding program. Have to go south for Northern pike.

Welcome to the wild West, I figured you would have to head North to get into the Northerns and Muskie. I did catch a dandy 10 lb. Northern while fishing out of my float tube near Champaign back in 85 when I was stationed at Chanute AFB. That was a battle, I had a guy come over in his Ranger to help me net it. Yuba Res. South of Provo has some nice Northerns in it. If you are into walleye fishing you are hitting it just about the right time for the bite at Utah Lake and Willard Bay, Yuba should be kicking off about now as well. [fishin]

So - you think they're spawned out already? Into the after-bite?

I doubt it, in the Bay that seems to last thru the end of March. I know the Inlet group has been catching/ snagging for a couple weeks.

Welcome to Utah. Not a native Chicagoan but did spend 4 years in school there. Lived Near North Side- a couple blocks from Rush Street, the Lake Front and Lincoln Park. Last of my 4 years was up in Evanston a half block from Northwestern's football stadium. You've already been warned about the liquor laws so don't expect to find anything like Rush Street closer than Vegas.
I mostly fly fish these days. A lot easier than it looks so if you ever need a hand getting started give me a holler.

My brother was the White Sox fan. Me - I'm all for goats and underdogs, plus Wrigley field over Comisky park, I like Ivy (me and little lambs).
I did spend most of my lakeside time down at the "point" - out from the Museum of Science and Industry. Summer sailing after taking the IC to Randolph station. Remember swiping brew from the Yacht club, and borrowing a boat after class to "train" for the regattas. Even took one out to the 1 mile Crib - that was creepy. You think the Chicago river is green! [shocked] Don't know why they ever dumped dye into it on St Patties - that mess was always green!
Sadly I knew more about Alewives on the beach than the Salmon runs off the harbors. If I knew then . . .
Do you know Harold's Chicken Shack! Oh the memories, and the Louisiana hot sauce!
I did have a few Latin lovers back in the day - Latin HS that is[ ![Wink Wink](https://bigfishtackle.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.png) ], N. side - another "prep" school. I was a Labbie - UofC - U-high (always added a question mark[cool]).
I guess now I'm batting for the other team! Having become a Northerner.

Welcome to the Holy land! We all hope your days in the mountains and desert waters are filled with trophys. Once you get over the arcane liquor laws and plan ahead, life will be good.
There are a lot of great people on this board who have roots in the Midwest, they and the rest of us welcome you.
