Fish Springs
#1
Has anyone fished it? Are there any fish left in there? Is it legal to fish? I'm interested in doing some harpooning out there next weekend but can't find anything in the guidebook or internet about it.

Have you checked with the BLM or the USFWS? They own the property. I think it is full of chubs.

"Harpooning"?...... I don't think so. Been there many times but never for fishing. Mostly waterfowl and muskrats, maybe a few eagles, hawks, crows, stuff like that. I've seen a few minnow type fish in some of the ponds but never anyone fishing it and for sure no one "harpooning" it. Beautiful place and worth the drive out there but probably best to leave the harpoon home.

I think the office out there can be reached by phone so give them a call. I think it is a federal facility.

Call the Fish & Wildlife Service - they have a manned office and manage the Refuge. I have never seen anything bigger than a minnow (about the size of a guppy) swimming out their; however, that has been a number of years ago.

Fish Springs is located out in the west desert - south of Wendover, east of Callio (??), NW of IPP and west of Dugway - about 2 hours from the nearest gas station.

[#800000]Fish Springs is a National Wildlife Refuge primarily maintained as a waterfowl area. Fishing is NOT one of the promoted activities. The HQ address for the Refuge is listed as Dugway, UT with office hours of 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. Their phone number is 435-831-5353.[/#800000]

It is illegal to fish there. I drove out there last year and talked to the dwr guy out there for a while. It just a bird refuge.
