I hit Willard yesterday from about 4 till dark in freeway bay with the other hundred people...lol. Casted mussels and worms from shore. Hooked up with one wiper and a carp. I also missed a few bites. I think I missed the hot bite earlier in the day.
Pineview Crappie??????
I remember many years ago hitting up the view for crappies around the middle inlet. I haven't been able to catch many for several years. Could anyone give me a refresher of when they start to bite and some of the best locations? Has anyone ever tried the north inlet end?

I used to launch a pontoon in the middle inlet area, and do pretty well around the flooded vegetation - but that was only when P'View was full. At less than full pool, the sandy bottom in and around the swim beach areas wouldn't be ideal crappie country, IMO.
I also had good luck around the sunken bridge and brushy banks east of the Anderson Cove campground. That was back when you could still park beside the highway there. Now, you'd have to pay to launch.

I have seen fresh ones in the seafood counter at both Smiths and Winco in Ogden.

I bet that you can catch crappies at most docks like port ramp but you can't always fish from there. I went on some docks at pineview about a couple of weeks before it frose and caught tons of crappie with a few perch mixed in.

next 3 day warm spell its on big time.there are too many crappie in that lake need thinned out!!!spring creek, middle fork, guertsons, it wont matter,3 days stable weather.

Most from around here will be frozen, even Iif they say fresh, because of a trick the FDA allows, but they are fine bait. Walmart has nice big frozen ones, but they are consistently sold out this time of year. Asian markets are loaded with em, often fresh

As I've mentioned before, it never hurts to tell the seafood manager that you are looking for fish bait. If he/she has something that is about to be tossed you might even get it for free.

If mussels are fresh they will still be closed,there is no way to sell whole mussels fresh if they have been frozen.On the half shell is a different story,they are all frozen,some markets will thaw them and sell them as fresh,but they are 100% previously frozen.

I am pretty sure that in some streams here in Utah, you can find fresh water clams/mussels. I know for sure that you can find them in the stream bed in Goshen Canyon. Utah lake has fresh water clams or mussels in it.
I wonder if a snails or even slugs would work as bait . They are mollusks and would give off a good scent.
Several years ago, I went and fished the irrigation reservoir in Santaquin and the fat trout that were planted there were chuck full of aquatic snails and leaches.

[#0000FF]Walleyebob posted a report about a year ago about using snails he "harvested" from his yard. Utah Lake kitties snarfed 'em up good. I have heard of others using them for trout and sunfish.
