Any Reports for Brownlee?
#1
Heading out to Brownlee the middle of May and was wandering if the crappie fishing is doing any good as of yet. Last year we went about the same timeframe and only caught a couple and none of them had any really size to them. Compared to a couple of years ago when I went and it seemed like a bite every other cast and good size also.

Thanks in Advance

Was out Easter Weekend and the bite was on but the fish were all very small. Most were suspended in 15-20 feet of water in the middle of coves, but I suspect by middle of May that they will be shallow. Still had fun with them, but I think it will be a year or two before they get to the size you expect to catch from Brownlee. I'm sure there will be a few schools of larger fish if you search as well.

Best of luck

Went to Brownlee Tuesday night and Wed...no love on catfish night fishing...but Wed started at 6 am...fished top water pretty much all day except for a couple hours looking for crappie. Never found them. Tally for the day was 62 small mouth for me and 67 for my partner. Which is pretty awesome considering water temp was 57 to 59. Oregon side was the ticket due to the sun hitting it first and longest. Bass were in prespawn mode. I kept a couple for my neighbor reluctantly but checked the stomachs while cleaning and they were completely empty. Awesome day all told.

Thanks Jimbojump

Looking forward to the trip out there myself .... was planning on doing a little of everything (catfish, crappie, bass, heck anything that will bite)

Would really enjoy finding some nice schools of decent size crappie

Fished it last weekend and tried deep and shallow for cats with only 1 bite. The carp were starting to hit the shallows to bad I didn't bring my bow. Headed back on Sunday to see if the warmer weather has them biting.

Getting closer, heading out on the 20th .... gonna spend a few days fishing and then down to Whitebird to do some ATV Riding.

I will be setting up camp at Woodhead Campground, Never fished the upper end by boat so I am open to any suggestions on where to start. Gonna try to do a little of everything ..... bass, crappie and catfish .....

I saw on IDFG that 2 Bass clubs will be fishing tournaments out of Woodhead the weekend before I get there so hopefully can get some reports from them also.

Just got back from Woodhead Monday, lots of little crappie and tons of small bass. It seemed like out 20 small bass 1 would be over 13 inches. I did hit Oxbow and fished up against Brownlee Dam on the wall, no luck at all, still was to early I think. As far as Brownlee goes, like others had said, try the Oregon side first for the longer exposure to the sun. When you get there on the 20th, it should be pretty good fishing. Try using a culry tail or a split tail white crappie jig. Cast right up to bank then slowly real out. You will nail both crappie and smallmouth. That's been one of go to's for that time of year.

We went and hit it yesterday. Same story, lots of 10-12" bass. Still fun though. Sure would like to find some of the bigger ones.

Thanks for the information ..... hopefully the water will be warming up a bit and the bass will be spawning .... would enjoy catching some nice crappie also.

And going on the Oregon side makes sense, so definetly will hit it up first in the am

Looks like from everything I am reading online at the different forums ... Brownlee bite (Smallmouth, Crappie and Catfish) should be on when I get there Tuesday ... lets hope so.

If you see some pics later then the bite was on ... if no pics, then a great time just getting away from it all.

When I was staying at Woodhead Campground they had free wi-fi, but only temporary. They did not know for how long though.
