I have also poured for years but for sturgeon sinkers and for salmon, I don't know where you're at and I know you don't want to spend a ton but Howard's tackle has like 30 different mold kinds and for like 37 bucks

I know a couple guys at some scrap yards that will call me when they get some soft lead. I bought about 40 lb a year ago and that will last me a while.

Tire shops usually have old wheel weights sitting in buckets.

I prefer soft lead to the tire lead. you have to heat the tire lead up alot hotter, and it is more impure but it will work

Local boys down at the tire shop hooked me up with a 5gal bucket of lead 5years ago. Only used about 2/3 of it pouring 8 & 10oz pyrimids. Going to start using rail road spikes when I run out. Probably lose a few years of life every time I pour.

What are the rail road spikes made out of? I have thought the same thing about loosing some years of my life. i usualy try to wear a mask and do it outside, but last i checked lead only caused cancer in the state of California right?

Best to stay out of the State of California. Everything causes cancer there! [shocked]
Get a really GOOD mask and even then do it outside.
Stay safe guys.

For sturgies I went to an army surplus store and bought a bunch of bolts in different weights. Cheap, clean easy.

I used to pour and use lead for sturgeon and cats. Now I take a roll of duct tape, find a nice rock on the bank, wrap it up with tape and put a loop in the tape, hook the swivel to is and give it a toss. They hold up great, and if I lose it, well just one more thing I will snag while bass fishing.

Back in the day when I was trying to drink the world dry, I was in jail with some fellas that were locked up for picking up RR spikes along the tracks and selling them for scrap. Bet they would work well, but I ain't touching em.

I have a large egg sinker mold like an ounce or so. I have looked on and off for a removable split shot mold but do not have one. You can use a lure body mold piece as an egg sinker.

I have used a jig head Do-It mold for a numbers of years, always have used wheel weights. Now lots of the wheel weights are zinc. I have been going to figure out how to cast them out of zinc, just because you can. I got my mold from ebay for about 30 bucks.

i would rather pour lead than zinc that stuff can make you way sick i worked in a welding shop where we tig welded zinc counter tops and respirators were mandatory zinc is what's used to galvanize steel and every one know how sick galvanized steel can make you when you weld it
I have a do it cannon ball mold 4 5 and 6 oz poured about 30lbs worth last spring dont think i will ever run out now i would be willing to trade or sell it for the right deal or price
PM me if interested
