Strawberry Kokes
#1
Thanks to all those that gave me advice, I was able to sort through it and make it work, thanks again.

Had a great day. Kept 4 Kokanee, let a good number of 18 in hefty rainbows go. Near 20 fish day.

Launched Solider Creek side. Tried across to other side, with the steep mountain, got tons of smaller rainbows, even doubles. No Kokes.

Here is what worked Thursday for me.

Tackle; downrigger one pole and lead line the other pole. Out 75 feet lead core, which at about 1 mph, give or take .3 with wind, puts it down 20 to 25 feet.
Downrigger at 27 feet.
Terminal tackle, pink and white uv squid tipped with chartreuse maggot, behind RMT dodger or Shasta dodger, didn't matter on dodger. Kokanee kings didn't work. Needle fish didn't work, or I wasn't in the right area, when trying them.

The were: Just before the narrows on the Solider Creek side, WEST side of the main body, there are 3 points, approx. a 1/4 to 1/2 up the west side of the main Solider Creek. Somewhere between 100 and 300 yds off shore. But it was more were you find them, the stinkers kept moving.

Great fighters, in retrospect, I would put a more whippy or flexible pole on the lead core reel.

The money in the picture is to show size, they were 16 inches, also probably represents what it takes to go fishing. The rainbow in the net was average size I caught while targeting Kokes.

Good job! They are money fish for sure! I might try my luck on sunday. I forgot i had one of those water depth maps for the berry and soldier creek side. I forget the name, there blue and white, you can find them at sportsmans or most tackle shops, it tells you the hot spots for kokes and other info for the whole lake. Those points i believe are one of the spots on the map and my favorite area to fish for everything.

I was trolling between 0.8 and 1.5 mostly 1.3, but with the wind it was whatever. Also I tried to be at the speed the lead core rod was showing just the right action.

I need to get one of those maps. Never once saw a bunch of fish on the sonar. Maybe at 20 ish feet, they don't easily come in the cone of the sonar, or they are boat shy.

Wow, had the small kokanee for breakfast, one of the best tasting fish I've had. Yummy. I maybe hooked. I am hoping in the summer they don't get the mossy tasting that the trout get in Strawberry.

Also I only lost one, maybe due to the stinger hook on the squids, and often the second hook was solid in a bony part of the face.

I can't find a printing date on the map so I don't know when or if they are updated.
