I picked up a couple of those at Cabela's a year ago, $10 each.
They work all right but still looking for something that I won't loose a rod out of.

[#0000FF]If you can work with PVC you can make a tripod with a "quick draw" holder. The end of the rod slips down in the specially cut holder and the harder a fish pulls the tighter the rod holds.

I have made several variations of the tripod arrangement. Most work well. You can make the legs as long or short as you want...and vary the angles however you want. The key is the rod holder fitting. Here is a pic showing the "horizontal hold" with the rod tip directly above the hole. You will notice I use longer rods than most ice anglers. With this setup the long rod acts as a sensitive spring bobber and light bites are easy to see.

I made my own in the past out of wood. They worked great holding the pole but I kept
Losing poles down the hole. Frustrating to say the least. I also need it to fold up for easy packing. Do you make yours glued together or easy to disassemble ? I also use longer rods.
