Silver Flat Reservoir Fishing Trip
#1
Hey everyone! So I have been having a bit of bad luck fishing this Summer, but I finally found a good spot and I wanted to share it with any of you who are just looking to catch some good fish. We caught about 25-30 fish in the 4 hours we were at Silver Flat Reservoir from about 0700-1130. We used bobbers at first without a ton of luck. Then we switched to barrel weights and floated a worm with garlic power bait eggs and/or charteuse. We started getting bites immediately, and the bites were no more than 10 minutes apart throughout the duration of our stay.

The fish there were much bigger than the majority of them we found down the road at Tibble Fork, though there are still a lot of small ones. There are big enough fish to keep though, and you will undoubtedly hit your limit with garlic and worms. The lake is pretty low right now, but it hasn't effected anything other than getting a bit of moss on your line.We fished from the corner of the lake near the damn, just off where the road first meets the lake. We will be heading back out there soon with a raft to see if the fish are any bigger near the center of the lake.

Silver Flat Reservoir is located up American Fork Canyon. Turn left at the fork past Timpanogas cave. It's the dirt road that goes up the mountain past tibble fork reservoir. The drive can be a bit bumpy and rocky if you are in a car, but its not too bad if you take it slow. Fish or no fish, it is almost worth the drive up there just to see how beautiful it is.

Let me know if you need any other info, and or if you know any other good spots around Salt Lake.

Welcome to the site UFN and thanks for posting your report. I've never fished that lake, how big is it?

Thanks for the report. Nice to know of a good spot not too far from the valley. I'll have to go there soon. What type of fish were you catching?

I love fishing up there, Same tactics as you. I've heard Fly's behind a water bubble work well.

Glad to hear the fishing is hot. Maybe I'll head up there after work today.. I could use another mountain adventure.

It's a really pretty lake about four times the size of Tibble Fork.

The road up can be rugged. I've seen cars up there but I wouldn't do it in a non-4x4 with decent ground clearance -- and I take my cars off-roading where many people won't.

It's good to hear the fishing is good up there!

For those considering a trip to this wonderful spot who have not visited it before, remember there is a fee to enter the canyon.

Thanks!

It's pretty big, if I had to guess I would say it would be about a mile or two across. You can definitely tell it gets really deep when it is full, though right now I'd be surprised if it was deeper than 8 or 9 ft in the center.

Out of the 15 fish we pulled in, 13 of them were rainbows, and we caught two really pretty brook trouts. They apparently have a lot of artic grayling there too. There was another guy in a fishcat who pulled a couple out with flies, though I didn't have the privilege of hooking any myself.

I am sure flies would be great, there were plenty of fish jumping. I was thinking of trying some flies, but I figured "why change what I know is working well?" lol.

It's not big enough to toss your wiper boat and troll around [Wink].

Most of the fish up there are around 8-12" here and there if lucky maybe just maybe 14-15" bows. I believe its like 30-40'ft deep only tossed my fish finder once up there. Water level is sure dropping fast. Might be a puddle by now since I was was there.
