Labor on Willard
#1
Was late on the water today. Launched about 0915. Saw what appeared to be several small, short duration (aren't they all) boils along the west wall. Lots of fish showing up on the sonar almost all day. Zig-zagged south about 75 yards off the west wall. Started out as a nice day for everything but fish on. Was down off the light pole just kind of aimlessly running in no planned direction, and got a voice mail from WH2. Didn't hear the phone ring cause it was on vibrate, but noticed it when it lit up with the VM alert. Didn't hear all of what Curt said, but I think the gist of it was that I was close to an area he had just been in and had boated several Wipers. Well Buddy, not 2 minutes after that call I got zinged by a fast moving Wiper. Got him boated. Ended up smaller than amount of fight he put up. But did the CPR thing and moved on. Thanks for the call there Curt. I probably could have stayed in that area awhile, and worked at getting a few more. I sure did see them on the sonar. I guess my mind and heart just wasn't "in it" today. Caught a small Cat while anchored out in Freeway Bay, then decided to call it a day.

Glad to hear you caught some fish Forest. Reelfast and I were out there in his boat when we saw you near us. We caught 6 wipers and one walleye before we saw you but thought I would let you know you were in the right area. We made a few more passes but no more fish at that spot. We did catch a 21" wiper on the way back to the North marina. Not bad for a morning trip.[Wink] that was the most people I've seen on Willard in over a month but then again, I rarely fish it on weekends or holidays. I did talk to the Park manger as we were getting ready to launch. I guess there has been a change of plans on putting in the new floating fisherman's dock, they how are planning on making them solid docks that are handicap friendly. North and South marinas will have them and there are plans in the works to make new boat docks in the South marina, that actually go in the water, when it is low like it is now. I guess they are planning on keeping the channel open during the spawn because they are putting in a new parking lot out by the baffles, where the road turns to come to the marina. They are also planning on extending one of the ramps at the North marina and dredging both marinas but I'll be surprised if it happens this year.

That is good news! Thanks for the good fishing reports nice to hear the cathing is still happening at Willard. Also, really great to hear WH2's news about the ramp/dock/marina improvements. Hopefully we'll be able to make a few fall trips before we put the boat away for the year.

It has been a lot of years since they have dredge the marinas themselves. The channels yes but not the marinas. They need to make the marinas as deep as the channel if possible. They are waiting for approval from the other agencies involved. It's too bad the state took all that money after the oil spill last year because these projects would have been done this year otherwise. I guess it will be done sooner or later[Smile].
