Looks like a nice setup, but where do you put the hot-tub?
[shocked] What kind of skis are those? Almost look like water skis by the length/curve? Hope it works out well, but unless you go VERY far north, I think you've got a bit more waiting to do yet.

Nothing wrong with the set-up and certainly nothing wrong with getting yourself ready early - except of course having to wait for hard water![laugh]
Until then, may as well enjoy the fall fishing while it's here. [signature]

Yeah they are water skis. I got them at Savers for six bucks. If they dont work out I made it so I can take them off easy. The whole sled comes apart in like five minutes.

Now all you need are a couple of Huskies to pull it for you.

Definitely going to have a snowmobile to pull that thing. I'm getting too lazy when it comes to fishing now. The easier the better.

[font "Calibri"] Glad to see I’m not the only one that’s getting the hard water itch, even though this is truly my favorite time of year to be on the water. I hope you don’t mind but I’m going to offer some constructive criticism in hoping you don’t have to waste a bunch of time, money and rods like I did. The rod holds, chair, and auger mounts all look good but you overall height is going to give you MAJOR problems if you attempt to pull that beast behind a snowmobile or quad. Two years ago I build a “Clam Sled” with the idea of trying to keep the snow, ice and water out of my ice sled that was continuously kicked up by my snowmobile. I was tired of taking my ice tent out and having it get soaking wet whether I used it or not. Essentially its two jet sleds hinged together in the front to create a “Clam” with my auger mounted on top. For the most part the sled worked great. Almost no snow was able to get in and all my gear stayed nice and dry. The problem was that even with this being a low profile set up (much lower than yours), once I mounted the auger on top it made it way too top heavy. Even at low speeds and using a solid tow bar that thing would flip over in a heartbeat. Any rods secured in the holders were snapped and I even ripped the heat shroud off my power auger. Do want you want but I see major problems with your overall height and I’d hate to see you wreck a bunch of rods and gear. I’ve sense moved to the Otter Pro and never looked back. Steady as a rock even at 65 MPH. But I did add a six place rod holds like you, NICE!!! Tight lines and good luck friend.[/font] [signature]

I got wondering the height of it after I got done, thought it would be a little top heavy myself. We will see how it works. If you see me out on the ice, follow my trail and you might find some goodies falling off my sled! I really like the setup on your sled, nice and easy. Did you put some sort of sealant or gasket between them?

[font "Calibri"]Nope, no seal on my prototype. I used a piano hinge from Home Depot on the front and that seemed to hold most of the moisture out. The largest gap I had was on the side and it was about 1/4”. I should have also mentioned if all you have is a hand auger this is a very nice set up. The problems came once I mounted the power auger, then it was just too top heavy.[/font]

Amen to that!
The best fishing of the year is just right around the corner and it ain't fishing through the ice. [signature]

So how many of Santa's reindeer are you going to commandeer to tow that thing? !?! [
![]() On Donner, on Blitzen, on Grumpy, on Sneezy... Oops! Wrong group of sidekicks. Serious recommendation: Wax your skis, the towing will be much easier. Good luck!!! [signature] |
