Prettiest Res. in the state
#1
A friend of mine and I risked our backs and hauled my 16' jon boat 200 feet down the launch at Upper Stillwater. The fishing wasn't worth it but the scenery most definitely was.

Sorry I don't get it, what do you mean," risked our backs and hauled my 16' jon boat 200 yards down the launch"? The lake doesn't look that low from your pics. I've been up there and never had a problem launching, has something changed about the launch? I did poor trolling there as well but I went to the inlet and walked up stream and did ok. There are some pretty fish up there. Thanks for posting your report and pics, we sure don't get many from that lake.

The regulations state that you can only launch a boat or watercraft by hand. At the top of the launch there is a gate that is locked. You have to lift your boat and gear over the gate and down to the water. Its a pain. Probably won't do that one again.

Sunkee, is there any sign there about not launching above 8157'?

Watercraft with or without motors can be used. However, your watercraft must be walked or carried about 200 feet down the paved parking area to reach the water on the boat ramp.
The launching of your craft begins by walking over two 18 inch tall fence posts that are about 6 feet apart. If your watercraft can fit through the walkway, you can launch your craft.
The lake level is lower than the 8157' mark but not by much

OK, I understand, in your pic of your boat and trailer is that before you took it off the trailer and carried it over the gate?

That picture is when we took the boat out. We learned quickly that hauling the boat by hand was not the way to go so we pushed the trailer down, loaded the boat and then pushed the trailer back up the ramp. Then took the boat off the trailer lugged it over the fence. Did the same with the trailer. Pain in the arse

That is a great lake. I hiked to the inlet and caught a brookie back there. Be a good hike in with a float tube lake too. Never used the ramp yet but it sounds like you had a trip and a half launching though.

Had good luck here trolling the dam. Lake is getting rapidly drained.
