Recently there was a poll on this site asking the Utah BFT community what fish finder they use.
Out of the 70 that replied 35 (50%) use Lowrance.
I’m thinking of getting a Lowrance finder. So I want to ask the Lowrance owners. What unit are you using, and how do you like it. What map package are you using, and are you happy with it. Do you down load your data to Insight Genesis? If so, do you subscribe to the site, or do you use the free potion. If you subscribe, how do you like it, and do you contribute data to the social maps?
Also, anyone using the new Chirp units. I’m looking at getting the Elite-7 Chirp.

The Elite 7 is the Finder I would have liked to buy but at the time didn't have that kind of cash in my budget so ended up going with a 5x HDI. IMO Best finder for the money at least in that range so I cant comment about the Chart plotting feature on the Elite 7 has but as for the finder...
Awesome finder that down scan imaging makes translating what your seeing on the screen so much easier, fish look like fish and structure is easily identified. Humming Bird has now come out with a similar Tech but for my money Lowrance 5x HDi been working well.

I have a Lowrance LCX-38C-HD. This unit has a 30MB hard drive in it loaded with maps. It can be very pricy if bought new. You might want to look around maybe check Ebay for some good deals on used units. Just my opinon .
I like this unit because I got a very good deal on it , it has a large color screen.

Thanks guys for your replies to my post. I'm thinking, with how fast the sonar technology is changing, I may wait until next spring to see what is new, and if the price on some of the older units come down.
I definitely need one with a larger screen, my 3.0 or 3.5 inch screen is getting harder for me to read every year.

Elite 5 DSI and love it! No guessing what's under the boat any more.
