Hyrum check?
#1
Hey I think I'm going to try Hyrum this weekend has anyone found a magic method that will turn that place on this week? Every fall it seems like I get one on fire trip and several other so so ones. My notes aren't very good and I can't tell what I did different so what are your thoughts. J

The kids and I fished the dam a few weeks ago and did well. We caught 7 rainbows, 5 tiger trout, 6 perch, and 1 brown. We caught most on worms on the bottom and under a float. I caught all of mine on various spinners. Let me know how you do.

You tubing it, or taking the big boat? I might come follow you down - let me know your schedule. I blew off the boat for the last farmer's market last week. But I've got a free weekend. Saturday I'm assuming?

Orange. That was my best in fall - buoyant spinner. Though I might just see what the Koke rods and downrigger would do for me. Maybe even drag some of them Kokanee spinners.

maybe I'd get lucky and find a big Tiger!

Thank you that's great to know for a fall back if I can't catch them on the troll. That sounds like a great trip. Did you ever get your boat going this summer? I ended up in my pontoon most of the year if I didn't take company. Guess I'll have a boat load this trip so I'm hoping we can find the fish. Thanks again for the tips. J

John I'm going to be in the big boat with my FIL, 2 BILs and a nephew. Otherwise I ought to get you on board with us. We are planning a 7:30 to 8:00 launch on Saturday, but we'll likely slip late with this big of crew. That would be great if ya make it out there. Hey do you have one of those FRS radios? If so bring it and lets start on channel 2 unless there are too many others on it then we can adjust. Bring lots of options, I'm concerned going deep on the riggers is past its season. Last trip I found most fish shallow near the surface. Thanks for the suggestions, I need to make a tackle run to restock all my lost stuff from the summer. Anyone know of a good sale? Anyway hope to see ya there. J

Just found 10in planter bows on the state park side many just 8-9 in. Good ol nasty power bait. lol haven't had to resort to power bait in a long time!

Are they not taking anything but bait? That may put a change in plans. Thanks for the tip. J

I did well with a white bugger close to shore just about two weeks ago. I was in my float tube fishing 10-15 FOW. They seemed to key in on the white as I had tried purple and olive as well.

Great tip, I was wondering if they were going shallow to feed. I'll take some whites too. Thank you. J

I did get the boat going. First trip out I went to Willard and did well, that was in may. We hit the river 2 and cutler quite a few times and did well on the catfish. Now that my deer hunt is over hopefully I will get it out a few more times. Cutler is off my list though since they're draining it. Maybe Hyrum or Mantua might be on the list.

One thing I noticed last week at Rockport was that more fish were shallow than deep, so it seemed like folks closer to shore were doing better than those that were trolling deeper. Not sure if this will apply at Hyrum but it might be worth a shot if fishing deeper doesn't pay off. Good luck Jeff.

Motor problems today so were bait fishing instead of trolling. I'm skunked so far but most of the rest of the boat is catching a few. Got a really nice 17.5" bow for my nephew. Thanks for the tip we are fishing close to shore. Later J
