In all seriousness fishing was pretty good. We landed somewhere around thirty and lost/missed plenty. Biggest was 24", with plenty of healthy fish in the 18" to 20" range. Key to success was covering lots of water (go figure).

Looks like your usual awesome take. Nice seeing 24" but still missing the 28" and above that has been missing for some time.
I guess Henry's BIG fish means something different to me, [Smile]
Great job.

Thanks guys! Ice was anywhere between 6"-10". I can't believe it's so thick already. I went last Thursday and it was only 3.5". Flygoddess, I don't think a 28" would fit through my 6" auger hole! That'd be a rush. I never fished Henry's in the "Good ol' Days", so I'll take a 2-footer any day over the cookie cutter 16" cutties. Would be awesome to have a better chance at a 30"+ fish there again. I'm sure there are still a few in there, even if people aren't catching them very frequently. I honestly don't fish Henry's when I'm looking for BIG fish, but it's a great place for steady ice fishing action all day long and it's only an hour away.

Way to deliver Fly. I never thought of 7 years ago being "Good ol' Days" but times they are a changin'[Smile].

Great report and pictures(Best part, not having to click on each one to see them) Like a fishing Magazine....thanks so much.

Great fish! Fishing has been good for us this week also. Ice in the Hatchery creek area was the same as yesterday, right at 5 inches. Slow at first light, which is usually the golden hour, but then it really picked up until it absolutely died at 11. Iced over 30, and lost at least 15. 36 degrees when we left, but doubt the temps will affect the ice any. Also, as a bonus, got to meet and talk with Damon, the new (and old) fishery manager. He checked our licenses and also came back out two different times to see how we were doing. Got an excellent education about the hybrid species that is stocked and his feelings about the overall health of the lake. He was excited to see people out ice fishing and overall is a really genuine person to talk with; you can tell he cares a great deal not only about the health of the fishery but also the fisherman's experience.

Awesome! I especially like the brook trout. Hard fighting and delicious! Those hybrids are looking nice too. I'm looking forward to next week!

They all flop until you drop them enough on the ice, after that they'll cooperate for photos and you can hold any way you like.

I fancy myself as a fly fisherman, so I will give my suggestion.
lift them with their back down at first, then quickly roll them over for the shot and release if you choose to.
Always keep them horizontal, specially the big ones and try having wet hands.

I second that. For some reason when they are upside down they aren't near as squirmy

My Dad and I fished it Friday morning from 6:30 until 1:00, on the West side of the lake. We ended up with 11. We caught 9 of those in the first 30 minutes of light. White paddle bug with Meal worm seemed to be the favorite. The frustrating part of the trip was there was a couple of guys fishing about 15 feet from us, and one of them was catching fish non stop all morning. He must have landed 30+ fish and lost at least two that were hogs, over five pounds for sure. He caught almost all of them out of just two holes, one hole he had plain hook with worm, the other a white jig with meal worm. His holes were the same depth as ours, he just had the hot holes I suppose. And he was even out fishing his partner about 4 to 1. Fun trip over all, hopefully get up there a couple more times and the ice holds during the warm spell they are forecasting.

Sorry didn't see this until today. Fished Sat. From 7:30-10:30am. Three of us caught 15-20each. Mostly Cutts, one Brook, a couple hybrids. Damon came by checking licenses and weighed one of the hybrids at 5 1/2 lbs. It was great to get back out on the ice again. White paddle bugs with meal worms worked well jigging. Very small ice flies on the jaw jackers also worked well. We were fishing in 6' of water.
