late season muzzleloader elk
#1
Finally ! Finally got to go and chase elk. Took off Friday night and headed down to set up camp.
Saturday morning brought clouds and rain.
Not my ideal weather to go climbing up the hill after elk.
Glass the mountain, and load be hold, found a heard of elk.
Tighten up the boot straps and away we go.
after about 4 hours of climbing and sneaking, belly crawling and hoping, I finally got within 98 yards of about 100 to 125 elk. Pick out a nice medium size cow, and pull the trigger on the smoke pole.

Wait all year to hunt for elk. One and done.
But worth the wait. [Wink]

Finally put the finishing touches on wrapping the elk. Was getting a little worried about the temp, but got it done.

Awesome, what bullet? I have been using a paper patched Lee 500 S&W bullet for years and love them. I used to use Hornady Great plains bullets but they quit making the 410 gr 50 cal so I looked for something better. I went with the 500 S&W bullet because I can make them and the quality control is a lot better than factory. [sly]

As far as bullets go, I had a super set up when they allowed us to use sabots. The good ol days.
I have been using the Power Belt 398 gr. hollow point.
Have tried a few others but for accuracy and distance I have not been able to find anything better.
