Deadwater early
#1
So got an update from the Village at Northfork. Deadwater breaking may not be too far out this year! Any ideas on how the run might be this year?
The future forecast is making me optimistic

Was up Thursday afternoon. Water below Deadwater was muddy, ice jam started at the Handicap Access and ended just above Dump Creek. Fished holes from Owl Creek to Cache Bar, didn't touch a fish. Road was 5"s of slush and ice with a lot of rockfall. Water was cloudy with around 3' visibility. With current temps Deadwater could go anyday. They got about 5" of wet snow from the last storm that is now melting and there is a flood advisory for Lemhi County and Salmon through tomorrow morning. My guess is it will be next weekend at the earliest before it calms down and Deadwater should be gone before then.

Dead water broke up last night. I called the store just a few minutes ago and they said it's gone. I'm going to go up and check it out tomorrow. Next weekend it's on!

My dad is in challis, been fishing the last few days. Caught one last Friday... And that's all the luck he's had. Didn't fish Sunday, so in three days one fish has been caught. He has seen a few others caught. No report for further down the river, but I thought I would add what I know . I think the fish up around challis are probably holdover fish from the fall.

Thanks for the info. I agree with you, I think the fish being caught around Challis are definitely hold over fish. Don't think they have made it that far down yet.

Myself and SF. Austin went up thursday evening and fished Friday. It was a good day. We both banked double digits but fished hard all day. Nothing very big. The Pic is of SF Austin with a nice hatchery female and myself with a hatchery male. Fishing was VERY slow until around 1 or two and then was really good until about 5. The water was a little off color but still have well over 1.5 feet of visibility. I am sure this next weekend will be great!!!

Another update out of the challis area... Last I had heard from my dad he had caught three from noon to 3.... Sounds as if the warmer parts of the day are producing well.

you guys who are smart about this sort of thing... how long do you think until they are up in the Yankee fork area?

Judging by what I am hearing from the challis area, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few in the area already, but I would say 2 weeks to a month from now a bigger push of fish will make it through into the upper reaches toward Yankee fork and stanley. I don't fish that area a whole lot, but it sounds like things may be a couple weeks ahead of schedule.

Fished Tuesday Shoup to Ebeneezer with Pokyfisherman. Between the 2 of us caught 15 steelhead and hooked another 5 that we didn't land. Beads in matt orange worked best for us. First 2 were dinks of 21"s the rest were 27"-31" and only 1 male. Had a great day and saw many other fish caught by others. Had 2 groups of friends that went yesterday fishing the same stretch of river with no steelhead landed and only 1 hooked that came unbuttoned at the bank, and only 2 steelhead that they observed caught by anyone where they were fishing. The water is dropping fast, clearing and cooling. Sorry, no pictures.
