Launched the toon and minkota out of the south marina. Got on the water at 8:30. Trolled west a bit then north to past the feed lot made a big turn headed south to the southeast corner then along the south Then a zig zag east west going north back up to the feed lot again. Trolled crank baits, tried all different colors and speeds until past noon. Never got a bump! Maybe next time.

How fast were you moving? I have a hard time going fast enough in my toon to catch wiper. You can get an ap for your phone that will work like a GPS speedometer if you need to check your speed. Try to hit 3 mph and see what happens. Later J

I use my GPS for tracking and speed. The app won't help when you are in a location without phone coverage.[:/]

When I fished from a tube, I was most successful pulling lil tough guys under a bobber. And just kicked and kicked. Back when we were allowed 6 it was not uncommon to fill a daily limit of 20"+ wipers. You do not have to go fast, just thru them. If they ain't there it don't matter how fast your going.

The one I have is called speedometer and it was a free ap so it's not the most accurate, but it will get you within 1 mph. I'm sure there are better ones out there. I use mine for my truck and it works great there. Good luck. J

What are most boaters using to gauge speed? Finders with speed transducers?

Good luck, maybe an old used GPS on KSL would be cheap and work. I used my hunting GPS for years before I got one on my FF. I find the GPS to be a very valuable tool for fishing. Good luck. J

I now have a fishfinder/chartplotter. It has internal GPS which I extremely accurate! Water sensing speedometers like the ones on ski boats aren't very accurate... Before I bought my chartplotter, I would bring a hand held hunting/hiking GPS and that would pit me right on the 3mph sweet spot for wipers!

Yup, any GPS unit is far superior to mechanical speed sensors. As gazillions of them have been sold, it's easy to find an inexpensive one online, be it a handheld or even a FF/GPS unit.
Finding one that has lake maps is ideal assuming there's a map for the water you fish (there are none for Willard) but even a non-mapped one will still show you speed as well as previously logged waypoints and tracks.
I bought a long-discontinued model designed for marine use online for about $50. I find it very valuable for both speed and navigation.
