First trip in the boat this year. Got to N. Marina at 0830. Trolled down to the pig farm and back. That took until about noon. I didn't catch a thing, but I sure had a beautiful morning. This was the first time I had been to Willard where the bugs didn't try to haul me away and the boat didn't try to sink. So, now I'd like to catch some fish. I dragged a couple of 10' foot diving rapalas about 100 yards behind the boat and trolled about 3 MPH. What else are you supposed to do to catch a wiper?

We were right there with you. Just got to change lures until you find what they want. Today was blue and silver Rattle Traps at 2.8 mph. We boated 7 wipers with best at 23" 4.2 lbs and a nice 2.3 lb eye.

ReelMasta, I drug around every blue and silver, blue and chrome, black and chrome, fire tiger, and even a kind of purplish diving crank, at speeds from 1.8 to 3.5, made random turns, went with the wind, against the wind, broadside to the wind, from south marina to lite pole, zig-zagged down the west wall in 10 to 17 fow, then west to east above the island and east to west below the island,
geeeze, I guess next time I take the advice of a coworker, take some dynamite and a big net[sly]. I didn't even get a hit and run release today. I didn't get skunked altogether, but may as well have. Glad those pesky Wipers are biting for someone......[sly]

ReelMasta,
Do you use planers? If so, how much line do you run behind the planer?

I was running one board but no different result than the long lines. My partner was letting line out till it ticked the bottom and then reeled up a couple cranks. I was letting my trolling poles run off the counters to 161. If using the planer, I let another 100 count off. We were in 10-11 FOW in open water.
