Do you rig this up with a frozen chub? Seems like that would really make a mess of one if you don't[:/].

Works with fresh and soured, whole or cut bait. Never used frozen because I didn't figure the fish would like the temperature change. Have you tried frozen? Just asking incase I'm missing out. Thank You

In utah, since it is illegal to use live bait most people will net or trap minnows like chubs, then freeze them for future use. In most cases we cut them up before they thaw out, that way they don't turn to mush when you try to cut them, after they are thawed. Some people freeze them in water, I like to vacuum pack them. Folks have different methods and one of them posted his a while back. I'll see if I can find and give you a link to what he wrote.

That's an interesting way to make a bait needle.

Over here on the East Coast, we wouldn't have a need for something like that in regards to cat fishing, but it's neat none the less.

We use live bait and/or fresh cut bait exclusively here for big Blue's and Flatheads. I have applied some of my saltwater tactics in the past in the form of trying bridled live baits and such, but what i've found is simply putting the hook directly into the fish is just as effective, and in the event you are stationary and casting, you are less likely to toss a bait off the hook.
