Braid to floro leader
#1
Ive been fishing top shot set ups for years..Ive been thinking about switching from Power pro to Suffix 832 and from P line to Seaguar InvisX.

Reason for the switch is that i drop shot alot for bass and the power pro tends to float until the weight pulls it down." Missing the hook set if bit on the fall." So I have my reel spooled with straight floro right now..I would prefer to just fish a 6 ft section of floro tied to braid main line..I find i get better hook sets and more sensitivity with braid..

The Suffix braid sinks so I thought I might give it a try..The Seaguar invisx is just rated great so I thought i would give it a shot as well..

Any thoughts on the the Suffix and Seaguar?

What is everyone else using and why?

When I dropshot is prolly the only time I truly finesse fish for bass. I have a rod rigged with a light braid and fluoro for junk fishing but I prefer my straight 6 rod. 6# Sniper fluorocarbon is the only way to fish clear, deep water. Yeah, you'll lose your stuff sometimes when snagged bad enough but I've never broke off a fish using it.
...And the braid to fluoro knot drives me nuts when it hits the eyelets. I think that's why I really don't fish like that. Anywho, my two cents.

I use Suffix 832 to Seaguar InvisX. Tuna fishing and it works great.

For trolling for trout I have gone to Suffix 832 to Seaguar Red Label. It's just as good as InvisX and you can find it at any Walmart.

Seaguar Invizx is my new favorite line. It is extremely thin for its strength and has pretty good abrasion resistance. The first time trying the 6lb I caught a 20" largemouth that inhaled my bait and was hooked at the back of the mouth. After a long fight I was very impressed to find no abrasion on the line whatsoever. I now have it in 8,10, and 12lb as well. I've been using the 12 throwing soft jerkbaits around flooded trees and brush the past few weeks and it has been great. The first time with the 12lb I pulled a 22" largemouth out of some flooded willows no problem.

Thats what im looking for....
Im sure I'll end up with 20 lb suffix 832 to about 6 ft of 6lb invisx via an Albright knot. All on a Dawia spinning reel and my Powell inferno rod.

My though is that braid will last years. I can change out a floro top shot in seconds. Rather than spool up a reel...
I fish over 50 days a year and re spooling floro gets expensive.

That's exactly what I do on all my rods that I throw plastics on. The line is a little pricey initially, but it lasts a a few years easy and the fluoro lasts about as long just using it for leader. I like those Inferno rods. My drop shot setup it the 6'10" light Inferno with 8lb Power Pro and 6lb Invizx leader. Works great.

Dude When I told you it was my straight 6 I wasn't joking. That setup is on this rod (down there)...trust me bro. It can't hurt to try straight fluoro, especially when you see that shadow between two boulders and you need to gently drop in that shadow and hope it doesn't spook the other shadow. Another knot is another distraction, It's not like your long lining for spots. Keep it simple. There will be minimal line stretch, no other knot, no plink plink plink on the eyelets and I'm VERY familiar with Powell Rods [Wink]

I like the braid because its strong with very little stretch. Floro used in short sections should last me a season rather than re spooling every month or so.

I tike the Powell rods as well. not as nice as my loomis stuff but better than my crucials. If you get a chance check out Lews reels. Im impressed so far.

Lews are great. I have something like 8 of their baitcasters. I did just recently get a Daiwa Tatula R because I wanted a super high speed reel for burning spinnerbaits and lipless cranks, and I have to say I'm impressed with how far it casts. I don't think the retrieve is quite as smooth as the Lews, but it bombs the baits out.

Spinning reels I pretty much run Pfluegers, but I'm curious about the Lews spinning reels.

Another rod brand that I'm really liking is Denali. I have both the spinning and casting version of their jerkbait special rods, and they are perfect for the job. I highly recommend them.

The braid to floro combo is all I have on my spinning rods, I have 4 or 5 in the boat at all times. The main reason I use the braid is that it isn't effected by line twist like the floro. I have high end diawa and shimano reels and all of them produce line twist on floro.

I use 10lb 832 suffix in the green and ghost colors and tip my braid with 5, 7, and 8lb Sunline super fc Sniper fluorocarbon.

All of my casting gear rods have invizx that run from 10 to 25lb test.

Topwater I use suffix siege mono

The modified Albright knot is awesome once you learn to tie it.

Your talking my language..and your setups are right in line with im doing.
My bait casting reels are all braid to florocarbon. I find they cast alot better. Replacing top shot is quick. Ive been tieing the Albright for years..strong and hasn't failed yet.

Not sure why I haven't done this sooner with my spinning outfit.

Thanks for all the tips here guys.

I am getting a heavier bass pole for fathers day and going to try my baitcaster again for bass at DC this summer.

I've been mulling over what to spool on it and the braid to floro combo sounds like a winner.

I just need to practice up so I quit rat-nesting the baitcaster.

A quality reel makes huge difference in how well it will cast.
I have two Dawia's and a new Lews. Once I set the cast controls these reels cast like a dream....a friend of mine just started throwing a Shimano Curado. He is starting to get the feel for it and is catching fish...once you get good with a bait caster you'll find the spinning reels not getting much use..

It's true, I keep accumulating new baitcasters [Smile] I do like spinning gear for some things, but pretty much all my reaction baits are on baitcasters now. I just love the feel of a good fish loading up on a crankbait rod and then doubling it over. I never get tired of that [Smile]

Amen!

With 8 Lew's you are my hero...

Now If I could just get a bait caster to work well through the ice.

I just got a killer deal on a Denali Rosewood deep cranking rod, so I just might be adding another Lew's to my arsenal to go with it [Smile]
