Saturday Henry's report
#1
[Image: winner.gif]
Hit Henry's yesterday near the hatchery. I've usually fished Staleys so I didn't know what to expect. Arrived just before 8 am and set up just west of the open water by about 200 yds and out maybe 100 yds. More centered around the hatchery looked like a tent city. We had a brief flurry of activity around 9 am managing to land three fish and missed two. After that we got a couple nibbles and had three more on and got them to the hole before losing them. Obviously those were the biggest fish we had on. One was on a jaw jacker set up about 50 ft off the shoreline in maybe four ft of water. We had been mostly fishing 7-10 fow. After noon we had zero action. Saw a few on the marcum briefly as they passed through but nothing more than a brief look. Talking to others we probably did the best of anyone. Saw two that caught one each and a group near us got a few bites but none landed. All our fish landed except one were hooked on white paddle bugs. The other was a glow bug dead sticking. Also hooked one on the jaw jacker with a pink rat finky. Weather was pleasant all day with overcast morning scattered clouds midday and flurries in the late afternoon. Almost no wind. Did see some fishing the open hatchery waters but I believe F&G came and talked with them since they all left suddenly after a short meeting with someone in a green coat.

On another note I had a small tragedy and was hoping someone here may be able to help me some. I managed to lose my pocket knife I e had for years and really liked while I was out. If anyone happens to find a black folding knife with a silver clip on it and black coated blade either in the parking lot or on the lake I'd really appreciate a message so I could get it back.

Thanks for the report . It looks like you picked the right day to go . Looks like a very bad storm and high wind for the next 2 days . I plan on being up there most of next week . Starting Tuesday .

Thanks for the great report. Two of us were there also, but got there around 9 am. We missed that first run, however managed to catch two fish. One at 11 and another at 3 pm. Both were cuts. Most of the fish we saw were not interested in the bait.

We were fishing West of the inlet about 200 yards out in 9 fow. Nice weather but the hut felt good.

Sorry about your knife.

So we made our first ice-trip to Henry's. Wow. A truly amazing place. We lucked out with the weather, The conditions were perfect, The Ice is 12"+, hard clear Ice, The scenery is unreal.. With no real plan intact.. we took our first turn left according to google and drove around to the other side of the lake which seemed to be private subdivisions mostly, so after 15 min of driving and not knowing if there was public access that way?? I turned around and headed back to the Highway.. First turn was State Boat Ramp.. We headed on in and found it surprisingly quiet. Decided to set up 200 yards out from the ramp.. Only about 5.5 fow. Crystal clear water.
Now On to the fishing[bobhappy]
Started slow.. Watching the finder and jigging,, then I started marking a few.. The jigging was bringing them in, Finally, a real soft bite, hookset, fish-on. My first fish Ice Fishing from Henry's!! A beautiful 18" female cut. I kept jigging them in and caught and released 3 more dandy cuts Fri Afternoon.
On to Saturday Morning..
A real slow Morning. Just one fish. Lots and Lots of Power Auguring around. 11:30am, Had to do something,, So I just walked 200 yards away from the crowd. Much quieter,, This is Trout Fishing!, Only 3.5 fow.... I think the move paid off. Landed a Dandy Cutbow to cap off an amazing trip.. The female Cut was full of eggs,, The Hybrids are sterile so no eggs or sperm i'm guessing?, I'm not sure if my hybrid was male of female but It was toothy, cutting up my fingers like a steel head and leaving me half soaked after landing it!! i think I landed 8 total and lost a real nice runner who just took off! Can't wait to return

We also had a great day on Saturday. Lots of people so we decided to move out away from the crowds and that was a good decision. We caught and released our biggest fish to date ice fishing. I usually fish 2 times per week while the season is open. I'm starting to explore other area's instead of the usual places everyone typically goes. It is definitely paying off.

Update! My knife turned up! Turns out after searching my car, my buddies truck, and everywhere in between the pocket clip caught on the seatbelt in his truck. His wife even rode around town using the seatbelt all day yesterday and never noticed it. Finally when he put something on the seat did he notice it. I don't feel near as naked now and if I ever decide to get a new knife I've got a couple models picked out already.

Idahofishbum, Congrats on those absolutely gorgeous monsters. Out of curiosity did you measure each of them. I would guess the first one at 28 or 29 and the second at 26 or 27 inches. Just curious to see if Im off in my estimates.

Fished the West side for first time this year on Saturday. Was Out and a little south of county dock.
We iced 8 all 19 to 22 ". 5 Brookies and 2 Cutts and 1 hybrid .

Strangest thing is that all the Brookies had a large number of leeches on them, they were 1/2" to 3/4" long and viscous little buggers. Anyone else noticed this? Cutts had zero. All Brookies we have caught this winter off the State Park have been clean with no leeches.

Merry Christmas and see you on Henry's next winter.

Ouzel.

Iv'e seen small leaches on just about all the fish we have caught for the last few years. I asked Damon Keen the fish and game biologist about it last year and he said it was normal so I left it at that. Dosn't seem like the fish have them in the summer. I will have to pay more attention this spring.

I fished Henrys for the first time this year today and caught 8 fish in two hours during the mid day period. There were three of us fishing off the hatchery. The slush was miserable and about 10 inches deep. The Hatchery lot was freshly plowed, in great shape and we were the only vehicle there. Fish were caught on white paddle bugs with meal worms in water from 30 inches to 6 feet. 20 degrees and no wind. We got 12 inches of snow here yesterday. The weather is calling for 18 below zero for the weekend.

Fished the hatchery this morning. 5 inches of fresh snow and the slush is miserable. Just measuring off that blue pipe, the lake has easily come up a foot since I was there last. Decent action, very light bites.
