Hi - new to this forum and Utah Ice Fishing. Got a question. I have been ice fishing at Strawberry a couple times in the last month or so by the marina. Fishing seems fair to good early morning then shuts down for the rest of the day. Can someone help me understand the fish movements - where do they go? Should I try a different location during the day?
THANKS

Welcome to Utah, welcome to BFT and thanks for posting. Having the catching slow down at Strawberry, after the early morning, is not unusual. It is particularly common near The Strawberry Marina. I believe part of the reason is that there is so much noise around the Marina that it scares the fish away. If you are willing to walk a mile or so away from the boat ramp you will increase your odds of catching fish. I have also found that it is not uncommon for them to be in shallower water early and then they move out into a little deeper water later.

My advice is to not fish any where near marinas or close to parking lots. The good bite your talking about in the morning isn't anything compared to the bite you can get into by finding yourself a quiet secluded honey hole away from the crowds. Get out and explore a little bit. Fish shallow in the morning then move out into deeper water. Strawberry is one of those places that when fish are actively moving around under the ice theirs no place on earth like it, but with that being said the same holes you've caught tons of fish out the day before or year before isn't always gonna be the hot place. I fish strawberry alot and sometimes I have to abandon my normal hot spots and find some new places. A bad day of fishing for me on the berry is anything less than a 20 fish day. Keep moving around until you catch up with fish and take advantage of those good days when you get into them. Also when the bite slows down start changing out your colors of bait. For me it always seems to help. Hope this helps

Welcome to BFT! I will echo what others have said. Move away from the crows and you will find fish. They don't like the noise that is being made by all those on top.

I have always had success at Strawberry. Fish the Ladders or Soldier Creek side has been best for me.

I have very inconsistent days at Strawberry. The most I've ever caught has been 4 in one day. When you say fish shallow. How shallow are you talking? Same for fishing deeper ? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

[mad] I find it very frustrating that folks on snow machines and 4 wheelers have to screw around on the ice way too close to folks fishing. There is plenty of open space for them to screw around especially at Strawberry. GROW UP!!!!!

I know guys that will fish in 5 to 7 FOW and have caught some very nice slot busters. I generally like to target 22 to 30 FOW - just because I get a good cone diameter at this depth on my fish finder & the fish seem to hang around at this depth.
