Is anybody going to the tightlines tournament at Deer Creek Saturday? I'll be there with my daughter. My brother (who happens to be a GM at BassProShops) has fished in this company's tournaments in Colorado and won some great prizes. I'm hoping that they put on the kind of tournaments I've heard tell of, and that we Utahns put in a good showing in return! I know this comes off as an ad for both places but FWIW- I'm in no way affiliated with either Bass Pro nor tightlines...I work at Wasatch Mental Health and use fishing as my primary coping skill [fishin]

I would have, except for the fact of the rules. No shacks,no augers, and only one pole can be used. Holes are on a first come first sever basis. When I enter a contest and put up $40 I want to fish that lake how and where I know to catch fish. I can see their reasoning for no shacks I guess (cheating?) Hope the weather for those folks on Saturday is good. I know how the wind can drive us older boys, and young ones off the lake. Good luck to all those who partake in the tournament. I hope someone will let us know the results after the tournament.

I'll be going. I'm mostly disappointed in the limit on weighing only 1 trout. It seems to me that you should be able to weigh a full limit.

Good points. I was hesitant at first for those same reasons. They definitely have more policies and much higher monitoring by judges which can take away from the experience of ice fishing. On the other hand, it does level the playing field for a contest that has some sweet prizes. There won't be much question about the results. I figure, for me personally, if I'm ice fishing for fun I'm all for the comforts of my own tent and such. But in competition mode I want things as even as possible.
As for the pre-drilled holes. They open the contest up to 200 contestants (easily filled in their Colorado competitions, but doesn't seem likely here). And they pre-drill 20% more holes than contestants registered. This allows for people to move around easily if they aren't having any action in their hole. I'm liking that idea.

Cool Johnnycake! Say hi if you see a guy with his daughter, it will likely be me.
As for the weigh-in. You can weigh more than one fish, but it's the big fish that counts. In fact, if you release the fish, you can weigh as many as you catch. However, if the fish is non-releasable, it counts towards your bag and possession limit. Once you have kept a full possession limit, they won't let you continue fishing for the event. So catch, weigh, release, catch, weigh, release and repeat until the contest is over!

Will do REPETER. You can weigh as many fish as you catch, except trout. I messaged them specifically on this as it is asterisked on the flyer. Here was there response:
Per the Utah Department of Wildlife. Although we encourage catch and release at our tournaments, they have a mandatory kill policy of trout when caught and weighed at a tournament. To avoid a large number of trout killed, they are enforcing only one trout weighed per angler and all other trout must be immediately returned to the water. Thank you for inquiring!

That's interesting. I was not aware of that. It would be hard to guess which fish will be the big one you want to weigh versus sending it back and hoping for a better one.
