Pineview
#1
Very slow night at Pineview. Got there about an hour before dark. I could see a few on the bottom occasionally before dark. Thought maybe they were perch. Near dark I caught a decent size crappie and thought "its starting!" Nope. Once in a while a few on the bottom and a rare single or double about 10 feet up. Missed 4 or 5. Ended up with 7. Cemetery Point north. 45 to 50 feet. Ice was still good, but slick in places. Crunchy to hard slick. No standing water.Took a plank but left it in the truck. Surprisingly easy to get on still. It started raining pretty hard with fairly strong gusts. With no stacked fish I called it a night around 8:45pm.

Thanks for the info, I'm hoping to get up there Sunday night for awhile, we'll see how it plays out I guess. I forgot the Daytona 500 is this Sunday so I may have to skip the ice fishing.

Some posts indicate they have caught a few perch, and if you can find them, some crappie. I have fished it starting at 4:30am until around 11am. And from around 4pm to about 10pm. I'm sure it is location, but where I was, dark is always better. There are just as many fish in the day as there are in the night, but I haven't got a clue where they hang out in the day!

Unless it's during the spring spawns, Pineview is usually a ghost town for fish during the middle of the day. My theory is that they all learned the habit of going down to rest in deep water because of the jet boats during the summer.

Did you see anyone on the south side of cemetery point? I'm hoping to take the kids up Saturday and the climb down/up the north shore is pretty daunting...

I've only seen 2 people on that side. They were way out. Last year there were people trying it, but this year all the action seems to be on the north side. I think you might have some very scary edges along the south shore, as that is where the sun beats down. The north side is steep enough that its stays more shaded, and the water gets deep quickly enough that the edges don't heat up as quickly. If you are taking kids up there, you and they need to be very careful. From this point on, the edges will be very dangerous. Gradually deepening edges will get you wet, but with steep shorelines, if a person breaks through, they can slip right through and under the ice. I wouldn't take a group of young kids on the ice this time of year for anything. Kids always want to head for shore and slide down the slopes.
