Lincoln cats

Fished the Lincoln Beach area today and the action was fast and furious. Hard to keep two poles going some of the time. Caught most of them on carp meat. All were in the 24 inch range... one at 25 1/2. Fun time.

Water temp was 59 degrees at daylight a.m. and hit 63 when I left at noon. Most of the cats were thick-lipped males in darker colors. Next week the cattin' should really pick up. I'll be there.

I believe it has gone down. Low point in the launch channel has been about 1.8 ft. deep, today it was 1.6. Apparently still no significant run-off going in or maybe too much going out for irrigation? Doesn't look good .

The water was flowing in about two weeks ago but they cut the flow down again to about half. I have been fishing Provo Marina area and doing well on big females, they haven't come into the rocks yet though. Still a week or to out for sure. White bass are still spawning though.

It sounds like you had a good time, glad to hear you found them again! Thanks for the report and the update on the water level. If it keeps going down it will be a long summer for the pleasure boaters.

I caught most of my fish Wed. around Bird Island... probably too far to wade now but may be possible soon if the water keeps dropping. Caught a few about 100 yards out from the first spring. If I were shore fishing I would fish from the rocks out from any of the spr8ings.

I was there today too -- it's an addiction -- and the north wind made for tough fishin'. Caught a few but suffered from sea-sickness from the rocking boat. Hopefully this coming cold front will blow thru so we can get some serious fishin' in. I've got a meet-up with TubeDude tomorrow. He has lowered his standards a bit and agreed to fish with me in my boat.[] Lookin' forward to it.

I passed a big motorhome with a big boat in tow when I left today. Would have been fun to watch them attempt a launch. Once you leave the launch channel you are good to go but if the water continues to drop under 18 inches, launches will be limited to smaller boats only.

Thanks Jeff--I usually only keep 2 or 3 smaller cats for cookin' up... release all others. I do have a good friend, an elderly lady who is originally from Georgia and she loves catfish. Catfish are a pretty hardy lot and it is easy to release them unharmed.

Next week should really turn on the cats. Water temps at UL are hovering around 62-63 degrees. The warm summer nights in June and July will be prime time for cattin'. I plan to catch my first 20 pounder then.[]
