Weber river
#1
Not a fly fisherman. Think I'll have any luck fishing the weber river tomorrow? I have power bait, roostertails and some castmasters. Willing to drive an hour or so, Any advice? Is it a waste of time if I'm not fly fishing .

Get some mepps and blue fox spinners. They work good. If I go there to spinner fish I like to just to barley up into the canyon and park at the rest stop and hike over to the "horseshoe" (that's what we call it) There are plenty of small browns and cuts in there to keep you entertained.

Where exactly are you talking about? The rest stop right outside of Ogden? That's where I live.

Up the Canyon passed the power plant in the river bottom, the river does a big horseshoe bend and the river goes on the North side of the road and then back on the south side of the road. The rest stop is coming up quickly on you right side, you can drive down the river quite a ways and park at the end of the road and easily walk back to the horseshoe bends you passed on the highway.

( Horseshoe bend is up the canyon at the first place the Highway Patrol can turn around between the two Highway lanes )

I usually do pretty good with worms or worm shaped plastics on the Weber right below Echo. There are several decent holes down there that usually have a trout or two Big Grin

Double check the proclamation regarding the power bait. With the water up right now, a #2 spinner would be a good bet. My preference is the Panther Martian, #4 & #6, PMRG ( red spot, gold blade) or the PMYG ( yellow spot, gold blade)( black body). Cast upstream and reel the bait with the current, or cast up and across at a 45degree angle and reel back. Have fun !!!
