Still waiting for my hook safe, and waiting to get on the lake. We got nailed with 20+ inches of snow last weekend. But the ice is pushing 36" thick.

[size 2]Chief,

That’s a balmy temp compared to W. Central MN, its been –34 to –30 to last two days.[/size] Thats not including the wind chill factor, with WC factor its -40 to -65.

[Wink] I'll let you beat us with low temps. like that anyday. In order to get on the ice you must always use a shanty. i spent a year in Alaska and we had wind chill there around -100 but that was againest the old method of conversion. Today that would relate to about -40 degs. The air would cystalize it amde it hard to see your hand in front of your face. Stay safe and keep warm.

[left][cool][Wink]Let's get things started. This fish is just right to start the comp. this is a perch 12" long and a mouth watering delight. It was caught at Lake George northwest bay in the town of Bolton on 1/30/2004 at around 2PM. We caught mostly small perch but with a few nice one's to keep up the interest.I forgot to name the state NEW YORK.

TWO OF THE THREE LAKES I TRIED OUT TODAY WERE UNSAFE , THE ICE WAS LIKE SWISS CHEESE [Sad] . ON THE THIRD LAKE AS SOON AS I PUNCHED THRU I KNEW IT WASEN'T GOING TO BE MY DAY , WATER GUSHED OUT OF THE HOLE NONSTOP . IMAGINE , NEEDING HIPBOOTS TO GO ICE FISHING [mad].

I'M HEADING OVER TO TAWAS TOMORROW , MAYBE THE BIG LAKES WILL BE A LITTLE MORE COOPERATIVE [cool].

[center][size 1][Image: gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=2678;][/size][/center][size 1]Fred is wrong[cool]!

todays catch , 4 fish . i had to have a guy get one of them back from his huskey [mad] after he ran up and took it ! the sticker is covering the bite mark . i will e-mail you a better pic from the new camera , i'm having a software problem with a missing driver or file .

top fish , 26" steelhead (rainbow )

middle fish , 23" chinook salmon (dog bit )

bottom 2 fish not entered (no ruler along side those fish ) 8"golbie , 11" rainbow .

lake huron , tawas area , about 1 mile out from the docks between 9 am and 1 pm on a sweedish pimple tipped with a blue minnow . ice was about 2 feet thick .

after looking at all the fishing reports i could find i thought i'de be in walleye teritory , the golbie was first , so i kept him just in case . then came the chinook , thought that was a eye , then the big steelie , thought that was a eye too , thats when the dang dog came over and took my salmon ! after that came the little rainbow , my hands were done in from the cold water and called it a day . gills taste the best this time of year too ! the hard part is deciding to eat them hot outta the skillet or the next day fresh outta the fridge [cool] .

Hey Dave, it looks like you are the gill king. I think you have enough there that you could try one recipe on each of them and then still have enough to make a batch of your favorite recipie.
