Willard 2 day report
#1
Spent about 4 hours on the water Friday 7/22, and about 6 hours today 7/23. Friday wasn't bad, a pretty constant light wind, kept the bugs down. Boated 5 Wiper, all on the junior size scale.

Today the wind was pretty stiff out of the north west, tried for about an hour to troll some cranks, but no luck. Got over to the south west wall at the first bend west of the marina, anchored out about 50 - 60 yards off the wall and set out some bait lines. But 10 minutes after getting all set, some bimbo in a red and white wake board boat, NOT towing any wake boarder, came thru at full speed between me and the wall. If the wind blowing at my bow wasn't enough to contend with, she set up a wake on my stern. Now, you know what happens when 2 opposing waves meet ? The make a pretty good geyser. And that long, linear geyser put quite a bit of water over my transom. Had to hit the bilge pump. Now if that wasn't bad enough, that wake had barely settled down, and here she comes AGAIN. BETWEEN ME AND THE WALL this time heading back toward the marina inlet. Obviously I was more than a little P.O'd. She was too far away to read the bow numbers, and too fast for me to get anywhere near catching her. But I weighed anchor and followed her as best I could. At the mouth of the marina there was another BFT member in a yellow yak, anchored just inside the No Wake marker. That crazy broad went across the marina inlet without even slowing down or looking to her right. She is a VERY lucky woman that I couldn't get her hull numbers, and even luckier I couldn't get within casting range of a big #13 Rapala. I think I am going to start carrying a paint ball gun with some bright day glow yellow enamel paint.

To the other BFT member, please forgive me, I know we have met, and I think we did the Cutler Flotilla 2 years ago, but I could not remember your name to save my life.

After slow circling that other BFTer,and chatting a couple minutes, the winds started calming, and I headed off to drag some rat-l-traps.

Boated 4 Wiper today, but all off of mussels along the south wall later in the morning.

A kind of stinky morning, but at least not from a "fish skunk"

I hate inconsiderate people who obviously do not know the boating rules and haven't even attempted to learn them.[mad] glad you got some fish though.

That would be me, Richard Johnson. Yes, two years ago. For those that can't remember my name thats OK. Most everyone remembers seeing that odd looking yellow yak though. Good to see you today.

Unfortunately the lack of intelligence and class of some people is on full display at the dock and on the water. I'm glad that she didn't swamp your boat. Some of the boats that are coming out now are designed to create a huge wave for the wake boarder. I fish out of a small aluminum boat too and some of the waves these boats put out are small craft swampers.

That's right. Sorry Richard. I rarely forget a face (or a boat) but I have a heck of a time with names.

Yea, she didn't swamp me. Got my seat and the back part of the boat pretty wet. Glad I have a deck and a bilge pump in the Tin Can. And I have no problem at all with the recreational boaters that spend big bucks for those boats, as long as they abide by the laws of proximity. But she wasn't towing a wake boarder, or any other type of water toy. And she was way too close to the south wall anyway. She had absolutely no good reason to be running that fast that close to the wall and between a stationary angler and the wall.

[#0000FF]Happens to all of us. Even to Richard. Last December he pushed off in his Kayak at Cisco Beach and left his paddle on the dock. Had to have a boat bring it out to him...or he would have been up Bear Lake without a paddle.

Here's a pic of him after he got his paddle...and a few whitefish. I have fished with Richard a few times and can verify he usually does pretty well in his "banana yak".

[#0000FF]Sure defies the old fisherman's belief that bananas on a boat are bad luck. You seem to do pretty well. Hate to think how you might do if your craft was red...or maybe purple.
