Some of the smaller ponds in Cache Valley are icing up well prior to this storm. I fished Newton yesterday morning. 3+ inches of hard clear ice. If there are still fish in Newton, they didn't like my offerings. I never checked Hyrum, but I'd guess it's deep enough, safe ice is ways off. If you go this early, take all appropriate safety precautions.

I checked the ice at Newton on Wednesday and thought it seemed good to go. I was planning on heading out tomorrow morning to give it a go. Did you happen to notice how deep the water was where you were fishing? I dont recall seeing it that low, thinking it may winter kill. Last year the deepest spot I found was 12' but I only fished near the dam.

I tried a couple Places in 8 to 10 FOW. Newton is probably 10 feet lower than last year. First ice last year, the end of the boat ramp was in the water.

Pat, the auger worked great. I tried several different locations that have produced in the past. Never saw a fish on the flasher. My niece and her husband did well there this fall. Going back in the morning with CVFISHER and his son. Three of us can move around until we find some.

[#0000FF]I'm sure the low water has impacted the populations. But I had heard there were still a few fish being caught at the lowest water level this fall. Let's hope there was enough survival to repopulate the lake and that Mama Nature dumps enough snow to refill it.
Glad the auger works well. Sorry but it does not come with a guarantee for catching fish. Some of that remains up to the angler.
