Mantua 12/13
#1
Spent the morning fishing Mantua today. Started out on the east side straight out from the ramp and after a couple of hours moved over to the south end. I've attached a picture of my ice skimmer showing the depth of the ice. It was at least 3 inches and probably close to 4 and although it looks nasty and rotten, it was good solid ice. No fish caught off the ramp and few saw on the flasher. Once I moved over to the south end, I started seeing a few fish, missed a few fish and managed to catch a pretty good rainbow and a nice perch. Everyone has there own comfort level, my personal pucker factor is ice less than three inches. At no time did I feel unsafe. I also wore my life vest, carried ice picks and drilled a hole every 100 yards to check thickness and water depth. There was one other fisherman on that side of the lake. Didn't get to talk to him so I'm not sure how he did. It was 21 degrees when I arrived at 7:30 and 33 degrees when I left at 12:30.

Way to go Larry, when I seen the ice all melted at the edges I didn't even dare step on it. However, last night was good and cold and put an inch of ice on my pond so maybe that helped too. Glad you got a few. Later J

That's great news! I drove through around 1:00 and didn't even bother to check it. Hoping to make it out soon!

[#0000FF]You are getting some nice perch lately. Not many, but good quality.

Must be the jigs.

I've been there and yes there is a ramp, never said it was a concrete ramp but there is a dirt ramp there.

There is a small dirt ramp on the East side to hand launch float tubes, kick boats, kayaks and the like. No where on that side to launch a big boat.

Agreed and thats what I said. Although I have never launched a small boat or PWC there, the last time I was there, it looked like there was enough room to back a small boat or PWC trailer into the water but since I never did, it could be a little too muddy to back it in very far.
