I was 7 to 8 inches where we fished yesterday. Not much action until after 2 when the tournament ended. After that it started getting good but the storm kicked us off the ice.

Taylor Hollow was 7" Saturday. Friday there was a small section of open water about 30 yards off the West Bank straight across and about 200 yards north from the restrooms at Taylor. Saturday it was frozen, but probably not safe. It was a darker color. I would avoid that spot, but the rest of the lake appeared good. We did good for 13-17" bows. Did catch one 20" bow.

Did anyone hear the results for the tournament held there yesterday?

Yeah, we were there. Going off memory... 21 1/2" won thru 20 1/4" fourth place. The hourly were 19"- 21 1/2". We did catch one just shy of 20", but didn't pay out, close. Fishing was excellent for us- got around 50 between 4 of us.

Wow those are some impressive numbers and good size too, especially for EC. Too bad you missed out on the money fish. How well was the tournament run?

i did that tournament last year and to be honest was impressed enough to not even consider doing it again this year. no machines allowed on ice, most likely due to safety concerns and i am perfectly ok with that. but there was 1 station to enter fish up by the ramp. so you either had to hoof it all the way over there or drive and that eats up too much time. not to mention the pain in the ass to do so.

I was wondering how they did the hourly big fish, without snow machines. That makes it pretty tough, if your fishing in Tailors hollow and you have to drive all the way around. They should use radios and have those doing the contest come to you, if you have a money fish.

They had two stations from what I understand. There were at least 2 sleds and two to 3 atvs on the ice as well.

If thats the case they should be able to come over and check your fish, if they have cell phone coverage in that area or two way radios that work from one end of the lake to the other[:/].

I had cell reception by the dam. There was 3 ppl at that station and one was a fish cop. There was a lot of ppl on the lake when we showed up and when 2 pm rolled over there was a mass exodus. After that there was 3 groups of ppl including mine. And 2 of us didn't stick around after 4 when the snow hit.

On a side note, how do they keep ppl from cheating on these contests?

Cheating, how would they do that? Catch a fish the day before and enter it the day of the contest or are you talking about a different way of cheating? Like giving a fish to your kid and have them enter it in the kids division[:/].

I thought it was ran really well. I would hate trying to put one of those together and I appreciate those who do. They did have several measure locations set up, they probably learned, as this was only the third one they have done. As far as cheating- I'm sure there are those out there that would find a way, but I have higher hopes for humanity than to cheat in an ice fishing derby. Maybe that why I rarely place in these contests. They did not have a youth division, but I wish they did. My nine year old is turning into a monster on the ice. I rarely beat him anymore! It's become my favorite part of ice fishing just watching how into it he is.

Like I said, I'm sure there's a way. If I would have caught the biggest fish, I'm sure there's guys that would have claimed I caught it Friday because we prefished it. But instead of thinking they cheated, I would suggest that the winners work harder, have more knowledge and are better fisherman. One of the guys that placed, fished next to us Friday. I don't believe they cheated, just knew more than everyone else.

If you see someone walking from the parking lot with a nice bow in his hand. Would your first thought be that they caught it as per the rules of the tournament?

I see your point. The check in was on the ice- so that would be suspicious. I fished near one check in and everyone that measured there walked in on the ice. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't think anyone paid to enter, went to a different lake, caught a 20"+ fish and jammed back to measure it before close. I think it's more likely to party fish on one entry or use live bait like those guys that got busted in Colorado did. I think people can and do cheat, I just think it's more likely for others to point fingers when outfished. I don't do it to win anyways- my boy just loves the raffle at the end and it forces me to go wind, snow or cold- and it was cold.

I think he caught a nice fish there or somewhere else an was bringing it back for a leg up. It doesn't make a difference to me, I wasn't part of the tournament. If I would have been and seen that he and I would be having some words.

Get a grip? On what? I just said someone may have cheated to win a contest. And now you are attacking me for an observation? Second, i talked to the ppl running the show and they seamed like fine upstanding ppl. The lady that was at the top of the boat ramp was a sweetheart. The ppl that were around us sounded like they had a great time. It sounds to me like the guy I saw at the top of the boat ramp may be a member of bft.
