Saturday Scofield Report
#1
The word of the day is Slush, slush and more slush. Once we were out away from the edges a little it was not to bad of walking I would break through the top crusty layer every few step but did not really sink very far into it. I would guess that the slush was close to 8-10 inches deep where we were down in the damn arm, with about 4 inches of snow hiding that. I would the Ice was a good 12 inches think once you found it.

For the fishing we caught a few chubs not others the kids had fun. They seamed to hit on a bright or glow jig as long as it was tipped with a crawler. We were fishing in about 12 FOW. The schools would come through about every 5-10 minutes it seams like and the would hit from about 6 ft to the bottom. I figured out pretty quickly they like it being jigged a little as my oldest daughter had the hot stick and it was cause she was always playing with it I think.

Be ware where the snow is not packed down it gets real deep real quick. due to my wife and oldest going the wrong way back up to the truck we ended up plodding through waist deep or deeper snow to get to the trail. This is a BIG THANK YOU to the young guys that came back down and helped us get out of that mess.

All in all it was a god day of breathing clean fresh air. We saw a little wild life in the form of a bunch of deer and 2 cow elk on the drive up the canyon, as well as caught a few fish.

I will add some pictures to this in a few.

I wish there was 12 inches of ice at Starvation. Sounds like the slush and the deep snow were a bit of a problem though.

I was fishing near the boat ramp on Sat and the 4 of us landed 28 chub. They were all within 6" of the bottom in 12 FOW. Used night crawlers and small ice flies.

The slush monster was alive and well. 12-18" of slush. I only made it 50 yards from the boat ramp before giving up going any further.

It was a fun active day of fishing.

Yea we did not wander to far the slush. I think one of our saving graces was I had brought some of the anti fatigue mats that I put under the wife and kids to help keep them a little warmer and that kept them mostly our of some of the water.

It was still fun and my lungs tanked me for the clean air exchange.

I can attest to that slush report. We were the group just ahead of you heading back to the truck. We had a bunch of young men from our ward with us and as usual there were several that weren't very interested in fishing. Those boys were in luck this time however because they shoveled the snow off the ice and the hole filled with water. They called it the "aquarium" and they had several chubs that we had caught swimming around in there. Before long they had a network of water trails for the fish to swim around in.

I'm 6'3" and there was enough slush in some places near the edge that I was up to my knees in water/slush.

We caught quite a few cut-throats and a few chubs as well. Most of our luck came on chub meat.
