I have read a few things about Strawberry at night. Me and a friend are planning on going up this weekend on Friday afternoon and staying through the night. My biggest concern is where we should go. I have only fished Strawberry one time and that was at the "ladders" I had a lot of success, but was wondering if there may be a better place for some night fishing. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Yeah, I got an idea, I would suggest finding the closest local tavern and do some serious trolling.[cool]

Whattabunchasissylala's. No cojones. Go for it! Looks like there's plenty of chicken livers around for bait.

It's been a few years ago, but I did fish at night at Strawberry and did very well. Actually it seemed to be better fishing while it was dark. As soon as the sun started to come up, it seemed to slow down. We fished on the Soldier Creek side just as you go into the narrows. Just small jigs tipped with nightcrawlers worked for us. We were probably luckly and had no wind during the night, so it was fairly comfortable fishing temp. A ice hut & heater might be a good thing to bring along though. Give it a try & let us know how you did.

I know Kent has fished it a few times at night. Might want to drop him a PM.

Thanks for the advice. We will have a 6 man tent with some ice holes in the bottom. We also have 2 "Mr. Heaters" to keep us warm. What is Kents user name or email address? I would like to PM him. I'm still new at navigating around the sight. I will definetaly give a full report when I return.

Yer Mr. Heater will really struggle to keep you warm. I have a 3 man eskimo ice tent and I use a 15,000 btu heater at 10,000 btu's during the day, but when I fished at night at strawberry a couple of weeks ago, we had to turn it up to the max. I fished at the marina, about 30 to 40 yards off from the boat gas fill up area in about 20 ft of water. We did well using night crawlers and wax worms. I caught everything, my partner caught nothing. I had the vexilar, he had nothing, and got nothing. We fished at Deer Creek thru the night the next week and had similar results. You have the lake to yourself. No screaming snowmobiles, no screaming people, very quiet and quite nice. But really cold. Really really cold. The tent walls frosted up, but we stayed warm with just sweat shirts on. I say go for it. Take a stove and cook something. You will also need a good lantern that you can hang from the roof. Shadows are a bugger. The fish were biting really light, so I'd recommend a good tip sensor as the shadows make it really tough to see much in the hole.[reply]

Hopefully our current gear will work out. We do have a vexilar and a little stove to cook. So just out from the marina. Does that get fished alot? Does it matter? Would somewhere else be a better bet? What about an underwater light or glow in the dark stuff? I know these are a lot of questions, but thanks a ton.

Yes, the marina gets fished A TON!! I would recommend going somewhere that doesn't get fished so much in the winter like the Soldier Creek side, or Chicken Creek East, but Soldier gets fished less this time of year.

The key is to find where the fish are . If you get far away from your vehicle you want to make sure you have back up light and heat and maybe a gps to get you threw the fog . It can get very cold on clear nights up there . Try cloudy nights for warmer temps . Marina is good because they have a light pole and heated bathrooms are nice .

Not sure how much of an expert I am, but I will chip in what I can offer. I have fished Strawberry at night three times through the ice and twice from my boat. I have to admit that fishing from my boat was far more comfortable, and I caught many more fish. The advice given above is all good advice. The only other suggestion that I would give is to not hesitate to fish shallow. With the number of folks that you will be fishing with (safety in numbers) I wouldn't hesitate to get away from the marina area; however, I don't believe it as big of a necessity at night to get to isolated areas because, as mentioned above, you will pretty much have the ice to yourself and the fish aren't being hit with alot of noise on the ice from the crowds of people that they are during the daylight hours. Also, the best of lanterns don't equal the large lantern that is in the sky during daylight hours. It can be difficult to see one of those strike indicators that attach to the tip of your rod. I would consider using a small red and white bobber. I have used an underwater light, and it appears to help, but I believe it would be most effective in shallow water (10 feet or less). Glow in the dark jigs also seem to help. Good luck, and I am also debating going up there Friday night.

On occasion I have fished at night. Having a fish finder is vital to find the fish and at what depth (obvious fact). I have had good luck with anything that glows green like a ratfinkie or other glow-in-the-dark jig head with a small rubber body of some kind and the hook "sweetened" with a wax or meal worm. I use an old camera flash and hit the jig on each side a couple of times and that really supercharges it and it really glows bright. Give it a try and report back.

Not many people fish the area by the "filling station", they mostly go to the west side of the boat ramp or further out. Fish in shallow water. I think I preferred the night to the day because of the solitude, but as far as success has gone... night or day has been the same for me.

Hey Kento I've heard you can see really good down through your icehole even spoting fish while in a shack at night. Is this true?

I have seen many fish during the day down the ice hole in my ice shack. I have seen them at night when I have my underwater light on, but not when the light was off.
