Davo, CFF #1, Bass, 2/25/17, Mason
#1
Mason and I went out today without much hope. My boat had been in the shop and the last time I went out wasn't pretty. Our first stop got us one 15 1/8 fish, but it was close to 2 lbs. Next stop was better. Caught our 9.55 in around 8ft off a small point. About an hour later I had a good one pull off and then on the next cast I had a 5lber pull off...what the heck?! Checked my treble hooks, yep, somehow most of them were about straight, I didn't remember getting hung but I am getting old too. So now I'm down in the mouth as we really needed those. Messed around catching yellow bass and crappie, just no bass. We went really shallow and I boated another, just legal keeper, so we had a limit, but nothing to be excited about. 10 minutes later I catch one around 2.75 or so and culled a small one. Mason is 11 and still getting the hang of baitcasters, the wind was no help to him and neither was I, since I tied on a big spinnerbait for him. He gets a backlash and right after he gets it out I hear him say he has one. I thought it was a catfish at first, then I saw that mouth, I swear it's head was as big as the 9lber's. He fought it well and I got it netted for him....I am pretty sure that I was more excited than he was...it turned out to be his biggest ever, 6.08....but it looked sick and skinny because it should have weighed 3lbs more. Any way, that got rid of our other dink. Went back to try for an upgrade but couldn't find anything. I think we ended up with 17.83 or something close, which turned out to be good enough for first with the 9.55 grabbing me another $35 for big fish.

This was the first CFF I've fished in a few years and we had a ball. I think I have my kid hooked which is exactly what I hoped would happen.
