Outboard repair or advice?
#1
Well, as the season approaches, I'm reminded that I need to do something with my 1979 Evinrude 70 HP. It starts right up and runs pretty decent -- right up until I turn it off. Then it usually won't start for 30-45 minutes despite cranking away. It acts like there isn't even spark, but I've tested, and there is... and then the cycle repeats.

I've tuned it up using my limited mechanical skillz but I'm at a total loss here.

I've been pricing some newer motors (used), but they seem to be few and far between.

It's to the point where I started seriously looking at new motors, but given their price I figured it's worth taking a real stab at getting this beast figured out.

So.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting my motor?

Could anyone recommend a good outboard mechanic, preferably in the southern end of the SL valley? (although at this point ANYWHERE would be fine).

Thanks all. Looking forward to some good fishing this year!

Have you tryed to re-prime the system, if you have a bad check valve the fuel can drain back to the tank and leave your pump dry.

We have two members on the site that work on boat motors.
Send a PM: Geezer-Tom

or: mtncat1-Rich

Both do good work but Geezer likes the older motors, both have worked on motors I have owned.
Good luck
