Mantua 6/9
#1
Took my grandson on his first-ever kayak ride. We went to Mantua today. Beautiful day. Calm, cool, and uncrowded. Only one waterskier. We got launched and pedaled over to the knoll.

Leo caught a big bluegill on his first cast. And his second. He third, fourth, fifth, and sixth, too. Then his reel started acting up (lots of reeling against a slipping drag does that) and we had to switch to another rod he wasn't as familiar with. The strange reel, the over-excitement, and youthful lack of patience spelled the end of the hot streak. He lost a couple more before we lost the shade in that spot and the fish turned off.

The weeks are growing, and the water is full of flocculated algae balls. 70° water. The females we caught were still full of eggs, but the spawn is almost certainly underway. We saw another angler in a tube catching bass one after the other near the boat ramp, on Senkos. All about 2#.

Thanks Rocky, I almost went up but let the weather man talk me out of it;I hate wind.

Glad you found some to play with. It doesn't take much to get the kids excited.

I will be setting next Friday, hopefully I can get my grand daughter into a few gills. She stills remembers the first trip we made up there.
