Dropshot, Nickajack Eclipse Fishing, Bass, 8/21/2017, McTaffi
#1
We decided to spend eclipse day at Nickajack to see if the darkness would bring the bats out of Nickajack Cave. We hit the water around 12 and I initially headed out off the main lake and caught 2 fish on a prop bait. Headed back over towards the cave around 1pm and found some fish in the jumps, where I caught a largemouth and a couple of white bass before the eclipse started. Once it started and we started watching the sky darken the bite actually initially died. Once the eclipse had peaked, the fish seemed to wake up for me throwing the prop bait around grass clumps, as I caught six more fish, all of the cookie cutter variety pictured. You can also tell from my picture that it was hot pre-eclipse as I was sweating like a pig. Healthy fish, but these are not going to win a tournament. Overall a fun day as we heading home around 3pm after catching 11 total fish. BTW...the bats did not exit the cave during the eclipse...
